I’m having a destination wedding (from CA to TN) and I offered to pay for my bridesmaids dresses (I only have 1 bridesmaid and 1 maid of honor). The dresses aren’t your typical bridesmaid dress, in fact, it’s more of a summery dress. The girls love the dress (they run almost $100 a peice) and I was wondering if because I’m buying their bridesmaid dresses that they both have said they’ll wear all the time, am I still required to buy them each a "bridesmaid’s gift" or is the dress a gift in itself??
Let me know!!!

From my own experience, I’d be thrilled if my gift was the dress. I think a handwritten, heartfelt note or card, perhaps coupled with something small (like lunch out, if you can afford it), would be perfectly acceptable "gifts" in this instance.

I agree — it’s very generous to pay for their dresses. I bought my girls gifts (about $100) but they bought their own dress. I’m sure they’ll be honored to participate.

Whenever I’ve been a bridesmaid, our gift was always the dress or earrings to wear at the ceremony, etc. I don’t think gifts are necessary – in fact I didn’t even know most people gave gifts until I came to wedding forums! I think the dress as a gift is perfect.

I’m buying my girls’ dresses too – they are already doing so much to help out on our special day. But yes, I’m getting them each a bridesmaid gift as well. If you’re budget-conscious, you can definitely just give their dresses as their gift or if your dresses were not excessively priced, perhaps you can add on a inexpensive cute necklace, clutch or other small gift. Receiving a gift, no matter how small, is a nice gesture and thank you for being your support on your wedding day. 🙂

I bought my girls their dresses and also gave them a small gift. I think it’s perfectly acceptable to just give them the dress as a gift, but it’s also a nice touch to make them a card and do a small bridesmaid lunch.

I’d say the dress and a card expressing your thanks for their support is perfect! If you want to add something small, check out the Micheals dollar bins. They’re full of wonderful stuff right now (set up for stocking stuffers). I found these beautiful monogramed note pads and note card sets for $1 each! SCORE! I love dollar bins!!! I always stroll by Target’s too. I found individual packages of Gheridelli (sp?) coffee for the out of towner’s bags there for a dollar.

i bought my bridesmaids their dresses ($150), their shoes ($30), took them to get manicures ($15) and then treated them to lunch, where I gave them each a heartfelt thank you card.
