I just asked all my bridesmaids to wear nude flats or heels. Especially with a long dress, it is unlikely anyone will even see their shoes (my bridesmaids wore long dresses as well). Nude shoes worked well because they all already had a pair in their closet.

i told my girls they could wear whatever shoes they wanted. (they wore short dresses)

for a light blue dress, what are your other colors?

but silver, grey, black, beige, navy could work.

If its long, just let them wear their own shoes. Shoes are one thing I dont think a bride should dictate, they are so personal! No one is going to notice their shoes in pictures, but THEY will have to wear them!

A lot of brides expect the same style or color.

Personally, I have problems with my feet that make it difficult for me to wear most types of shoes, therefore I’d feel like a hypocrit telling my bridesmaids to wear certain shoes so I’m requiring long dresses (so their feet don’t show much) and then they can wear what ever shoe they want (boots, flats, heels, flipflops, keds, etc)

To answer your second question… I’d say white, silver,  or one of your wedding colors

binks24 :  they are long dresses, no one is going to see the shoes or care.  When you look at the pictures, your bridal party’s feet is the last thing you’re going to be looking at.  Choose a color (better still, multiple colors that you find okay) and let them go from there.  Better to have comfortable bridesmaids than a bunch of girls running around barefoot later and cursing you for making them purchase something specific they’ll never wear again.

binks24 :  If they wear long dresses and no one will see their shoes, how can it possibly matter that some are wearing flats and some heels? No one can see them.

I had light blue dresses and I just asked them to do silver. There was a mix of flats/heels and it looked fine! 🙂

since your dresses are long, I think you should let them pick their own shoes.

I don’t think the bride should ever make everyone wear the same shoe.  They can pick a color, but let the bridesmaids pick their own shoes- then they might be able to wear them again.

binks24 :  if the dress is long, then I don’t think it’s appropriate to dictate shoes – after all you won’t see them. At best, you could give them a color (something like “nude” or “metallic”). But honestly, I’d vote just let them wear what they want.

If the dress is short, I think it’s ok to dictate shoes within reason – as in, please don’t force them all to wear 5 inch heels if they’re not comfortable in them.

binks24 :  also: if their dresses are properly hemmed, you shouldn’t be able to tell in photos if they’re wearing heels or flats…because their dresses should be floor length and cover their shoes

I wanted my girls in gold so I purchased their shoes for them.

Some wore heels while the others preferred flats…all were bought with each individual’s style in mind.

I told my girls they could wear whatever shoes they wanted. They wore long red dresses and they wore black, nude, or metallic shoes. It looked just fine and they didn’t have to go and buy a pair of shoes if they didn’t want to.
