So, it turns out my bridesmaids are surprisingly opinionated on many things wedding-apparel-related. One example – they think that when ties are bright they are too ‘distracting’.
Well, my wedding colours are aqua and red. It’s supposed to bright and fun and energetic, that’s why I chose those colours.
The guys will be in black suits. I was thinking of keeping FI’s tie a more toned-down colour than what the groomsman are in, anyways.
What do you guys think, bright ties (think aqua) too distracting, or fun?

Personally, I think bright ties are distracting. They would be the first thing that anyone sees on whoever is wearing them. If they fit well with the look you are going for though, I am sure they will be fine.

Definitely fun! And it matches your colors, so go for it!

I totally disagree!
I think bright ties make an outfit! But I guess that is just my style! My groom is going to be wearing a bright pink ties and the groomsmen will be wearing white ties with a white shirt!
Do what you love and ignore other’s opinions! As long as the groom is OK with it of course 😉

Go with what you love. Aqau and red is divine, and there’s nothing like a pop of colour against a neutral outfit!

When my Fiance was in another wedding party and I saw the tie he brought home I was shocked at the brightness. Brightest green ever. But it TOTALLY worked with the wedding and looked awesome.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I haven’t found any ties yet, but it makes me feel better that in the right situation bright ties can work.
Noritake, maybe if I have another colour somewhere else (colourful pocket square or bout?) the eye won’t go just to the tie?

That might work, but I am sure you will put it together in a good way 🙂
The rest of the outfit will make big difference in how the tie looks. Try to hold the tie up to the outfit you are considering to see what it looks like. If it is a suit, make sure to put a shirt under the jacket and then put the tie up to the shirt while it is in the jacket. If you can, step back from it to get a better idea.

I dont think they distract, as long as they coordinate with the wedding colors go for it.
So what will they say if your bridesmaids wear a bright dress? is that distracting also?

Noritake, I tried putting a bright aqua tie with a black suit. I think I like bright colours with grey suits better, but Fiance wants black.
I might give a really bright aqua tie to my brother (not in wedding party) who can pull it off better than the groomsmen, since he likes bright colours. And I’ll try to find a less bright but still eye-catching aqua tie to the other guys who are more subdued in their usual clothing colour choices.
Hmm, ccranetobe, you just made me wonder what the girls might think about my idea to use aqua ribbon for their bouquets to contrast their red dresses! (Not that I really care, haha, since I made so many concessions for their dresses already.)

bug-in-a-rug seriously, its your wedding, do whatever YOU want. If your bridesmaids say you cant do something.. tell em they can do it for their OWN wedding. Your opinion stays, because in the end YOU have to be the one thats happy with it.
I say Go the bright tie and to hell with it. Go with the aqua ribbon also. Great contrast 😀 😀 😀
