i don’t have THAT one, but I have another of their styles that is very similar (it’s the Lotus Flower Diamond Ring with an 8x6mm sapphire – equivalent in size to a 1.25ct diamond). ring size 6.5

I do not have that setting but I do have an engagement ring from Brilliant Earth.  Mine is the Lissome in white gold.  Size 5.75 with .67 cushion cut.

ilovesophia:  i want this exact ring, but in yellow gold. I was thinking of getting a lab created oval sapphire, did you have a chance to take a look at those?? If so, how did they compare to actual sapphires. P.s. Your ring is beaaaaautiful!!!!

ilovesophia-‘s RING! This is the same one that we have picked out. 8×6 oval. I was flip flopping on the round or oval for a while. The oval is just so classy. I really like the plain shank too — side stones that are too chunky bother my between fingers if they come down too low. I haven’t decided what band I want to go with it yet. I’ve had great conversations with customer service there. – Also a couple girlfriends who have gotten Brilliant Earth rings they just LOVE. — and also feel great about with the ethically sourced mining. keep us posted with what you decide on! I just love looking at BE rings and can’t wait to get mine!

socalbee88:  aw, thanks! i did actually see 2 lab created stones (which is a bit of a sore spot, as I had asked them only for natural stones and they brought out two lab created ones as well and didn’t tell us they were lab created until like 20 mins later).

annyyway. the lab created ones we saw were both *super* sparkly. like, way more sparkle than any of the natural stones. they looked really pretty in the showroom – unlike a lot of brightly lit jewelery stores, the BE showroom wasn’t crazily lit, and had a lot of natural light coming in through windows (but not much of it, as it was an overcast day during the winter), but i was concerned how it looked outside in bright sunlight – if it would look too fake. i feel like with blue sapphires it’s always a bit of balance between sparkle and richness. the lab created stones were very sparkly, but i felt like as a result it lost a lot of the rich depth that i personally love about the blue. i like the sapphires that look kinda like they’re glowing softly from within, rather than sparkle bombs.

i’ve attached 2 more pics of my sapphire so you can see how it performs in different lighting. my profile pic is that one that i would say is closest to what the lab created stones looked while *inside* the showroom (where my sapphire didn’t look nearly as bright); so you’ll have to use your imagination as to how to performs in bright sunlight. my stone is consider “intense royal blue” and the lab created ones are all a medium royal blue, if i remember correctly.

basically, the lab created sapphires weren’t for me, but i’m also not a blingaholic. if you love sparkle, definitely go for it! lab created sapphires are not all created equally – one from BE is going to be a much different stone than the $20 ones you see on etsy (this is one area where you really are paying for quality).

ilovesophia:  That was so helpful! Thank you so much for sharing. I love the deeper blue color that your ring shows in the pictures you added. I’m also not a “blingaholic” like you but I do love some sparkle to a gem. Price wise we were leaning towards a lab created sapphire, so it’s good to know that BE carries the higher quality gems. Also, I noticed that you have an 8×6, did you take a look at a 9×7 oval by any chance? My ring size is around a 4.5, and was wondering whether or not you feel like the 8×6 is a pretty perfect size. I haven’t seen a 9×7 or 8×6 in person before, so i’m having a hard time visualizing the size it would be on my hand. I definitely don’t want something super super bulky.

socalbee88:  i did see two 9xs7 – both lab-created – they didn’t have any natural 9x7s in the color and shape i wanted. i waivered between 8×6 and 9×7 for a while; 8×6 was the minimum size i wanted; and a 9×7 was the maximum (i have a size 6.5 finger).

bascially, we went with the 8×6 because that was the particular sapphire i fell in love with. the halo on the lotus flower adds a significatn amount of finger coverage – 1.8mm all around, so it’s closer to a 10×8 once it’s set. i was worried initially that i would think that an 8×6 was a bit small, but i really do feel liek it’s the perfect size (no ring shrinkage syndrome here!) it’s large enough to be there, without being too large that it feels gaudy. to me, it’s a very “classy” size. if i was doing a solitare, i think the 8×6 would feel small on my fingers, but in the lotus setting i really like the size.
