I’m so so excited that we’re getting a puppy! We have two cats already and we love them so much, but I grew up with an Alaskan Malamute and ever since he passed away two years ago, I have desperately wanted to get another dog.
My question for any dog owners, is what do I need to look for at the breeders? A family member (that we no longer have contact with) purchased our last dog and I don’t know many other people who have dogs from breeders. Obviously I’ve ensured they are not a puppy mill, but are there any specific questions I should be asking or things to look out for?
This is a huge purchase for us and we want to ensure we will have a happy and healthy dog for many years to come so any advice about having a new puppy around or questions for the breeder would be much appreciated!
And just for fun, here’s a picture of the adorable puppy that we are looking at. She’s so fluffy and cute!

We just bought a puppy from a breeder and got to see our puppy’s grandmother and mother. We also wanted to make sure that the parents were registered and make sure they were in a good environment. We also asked if he’d has his dew claw removed, if he had a chip, and if there were any illnesses that ran in their dogs…

I would look at the parents , make sure you meet them at where they dogs are raised (parents included) . Ask for referrals of past puppy purchasers and talk to them regarding their dogs , and if they have had any issues regarding health problems. See if your breeder offers you a guarantee/insurance for any health issues

awwww, I tend to be more of a cat person, but I have to say that is one CUTE puppy. I’m sure you’ll have lots of fun cuddling with her.

Thanks everyone, great info so far!
The puppies all come dewormed, microchipped, with their first vaccinations and they have a 2 year health guarantee.
They have about 20 referrals from happy customers on their website and offered to give me contact info for others if I would like to ask more questions.
The pictures online of all of the parents look promising as they all look very healthy, but we will definitely be visiting the breeder before making the final decision to see the parents and all the puppies where they are raised.
The parents are cleared of the top 4 conditions that run in Malamutes too, so that was good to hear.
I can’t wait to bring home this adorable lil girl 🙂
