Our officiant is a pastor of a new little church and he is the husband of a friend I grew up with.
He told me that he does not have a set rate so that is up to me. He did not respond to being asked if he preferred a donation to the church or payment to himself.
I know I have to pay gas (1.5 hour drive) and probably hotel, but how much should I give?
EDIT: ack, sorry, think I posted this in the wrong forum. My apologies.

it depends if they attend a rehearsal
Marriage Commissioner rates are established by the Vital Statistics Agency and are as follows-
**wedding ceremony = $75.00 + $9.00 HST = $84.00 (from this I send $34.00 to Victoria to register the marriage license;
**wedding ceremony mileage = $2.00 ($.50/K return)
**wedding rehearsal = $25.00
**rehearsal mileage = $2.00 ($.50/K return)
Total cost = $113.00 (cash or cheque payable to officiants name)

My cousin, who got married about 12 years ago, had her pastor as the officiant. The church recommended a donation of $250. I imagine it’s probably a bit more now.

@meetmethere2013: I believe our officiant is costing $220-250 w/rehersal (without marriage liscence). We are having a non-denominational ceremony in BC. Not sure why he’s higher than what nativedesires quoted from vital statistics. I thought $250 wasn’t that pricey for how popular he is, so I’m not too worried about paying a bit more.
