herrera2016 :  Hen Do I would say is most common. I can’t think of anyone using anything else really. Traditionally, because we brits are classy the theme is very heavily penis! lol. I hate hen do’s but some can be nice. Normally its about dressing up, often in a randomly picked fancy dress theme and drinking enough booze to kill a horse. lol.

herrera2016 :  Oh and ‘Bride to be’ sashes seem to be all the rage, not sure if it’s the same there.

Ah yes don’t forget the penis, penis straws, penis hats, penis headbands etc the list goes on. Also the colours are normally pink and white and it usually consists of partying until you can’t remember coming home πŸ‘πŸ»

herrera2016 :  Hen Do.  They vary though: life drawing, cocktail making, dance classes, spa weekends away you name it.  From personal experience the ones I’ve been to are not heavy on the penis but about making the bride feel special but PP is right that some do go that way.

missbennett :  I’ve been to the wrong hen dos – where is all this penis you talk about?

herrera2016 :  afternoon tea with scones, cream and jam would be a nice typically British thing to do and very popular for hen dos too.  Don’t forget the sparkling wine!  Mary Berry recipe may be one to try: http://www.maryberry.co.uk/recipes/baking/devonshire-scones – not sure if you can source clotted cream in the US but is worth finding if possible.  And as a Devon girl it’s cream first then jam.  *awaits onslaught from the “jam first” brigade*

EDIT to add: I’m shocked and appalled that Mary’s recipe for Devon scones says spread with jam first – she is wrong for that is the Cornish way!

ladyartichoke :  weirdly enough none of the Hen Do’s I’ve been to had penis there thankfully, I’ve just seen FAR too many groups on nights out wearing those veils, sash and penis accessories lol and and not forgetting flashing tiaras!!!!

NO WAY; gotta be jam followed by cream 😱

Is she big on drinking and nightclubs? If she is then do the penis themed everything, bride sash, fancy dress, drinking til you black out. If she doesnt want that type of hen do then do a British theme like PP suggested with afternoon tea and scones, with small cakes and maybe mini british flags put up.

Also for scones – jam then cream!! Its a very divisive topic, as is how to pronounce ‘scone’.

Hen do – at mine we dressed in togas, I had L plates and a bride to be sash. I got pissed and had a stripper at the party. Standard stuff really.

herrera2016 :   I had a two part hen do. We had a BBQ in my mum’s back garden where there was a butler in the buff πŸ™ˆ and then a ukulele lesson! They presented me with my very own hot pink Uke! πŸ’—

My first ummmm ‘meeting’ with the butler πŸ˜‚

My mother in law enjoying herself a bit too much 🀣

Our Uke lesson!

And me with my new Ukelele πŸ’—πŸ€˜

I wore the bride to be sash and veil both days.

Next day we all dressed up in vintage 1950’s style clothes and went to a big music festival. I didn’t know we were going so it was an amazing surprise!

Best hen do ever and not a single penis in sight!!!

Not sure if this is typically British…all my friends seem to never get married. All long term relationships but no weddings!

Oh and jam ON TOP of cream every time. Devon way all the way! πŸ˜‚
