Conveniently enough, I just finished mine last night! It’s a mix of vintage and new pins. Start with your family jewelry, if you have any, and then hit thrift stores and flea markets – then go to Etsy and eBay.

I haven’t started to assemble mine yet but I found some really great deals at thrift stores.  I would ask aboutsingles- earring that were missing their mate. Because they were odd pieces I got them for reallycheap…. The last set I got was 20 for about 35 pieces.

I’ve seen really nice ones that combine fabric flowers and brooches, unless you’re set on having it be 100% brooches then it would give you extra variety at a lower cost. If you’re crafty you could even make some brooches out of beads and crystals.

@nikkialys:  Genius! Yes, lonely earing and broken jewelry are great for this purpose too!

I am still in the process but what has helped me alot was that my BMs threw my shower and asked every one to bring a brooch  for me.  I got like 65 brooches at my shower, those with my family brooches and my Future Mother-In-Law has been getting them every where she goes, I think I have more than enough.

@hisprettygirl:  I just went to my florist and she tried getting my dad to buy one for me for $500 and it was not half as nice as what you made.  I had to smack my dad’s check book right back in his pocket.  That is beautiful enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!

I made a brooch bouquet for my wedding. Mine used a lot of brooches/earings/ring pieces and had a base of fake hydrangeas to fill it out.

I agree, the prices seem to be going up with the trend picking up. I found a lot of good deals at Gordmans (those obnoxiously large stretchy rings work really well!), thrift stores, asking friends/family/church ladies/etc, and just keeping an eye out at antique stores. The clip on earings idea is a good one as well. Here’s the link to my tutorial I made. I *loved* how it turned out in pro pics, but they’re not loading to the bee for some reason. :-/ Oh well, there are a good number in the tutorial.

I made one.  My brooches came from Ebay, and from family and friends that brought one for my shower.  once people heard I was making one (and understood what it was exactly)  I started getting randon brooches from people that weren’t even invited (like my mom’s coworkers), but were excited to help my end product.

@missfrillycoat:  I too am very anal but there were only like two that are very cheap looking but I will find a way to hide it in my bouquet.  Oh yeah and my niece got me a pretty bad one too but she is 4 so I will make sure it is visible.  Give your friends some guidelines and it will be okay.  But it started with me asking my BMs and they were so touched that they were able to be apart of my bouquet then they thought it would help if everyone pitched in mine should be done next week I will post pics

Ladies who made brooch bouquets, what do you recommend using as a base for the bouquet??

I agree with @Julie12, I started with asking ladies in my life if they could donate a brooch each and I’ve ben hitting up Estate sales and swap meets in the meantime….still collecting:) I can’t bring myself to BUY any brooches because I personally want my bouquet to have a “hand-me-down” feel. Good luck on your search as I think you have some great input from some SisterBees:)

@Vegas pug – Where did you get your shoes?? I would love to find those in RED!
