Hi fellow brides,
I’m new to this board and need help! My fiancé and I are searching Brooklyn for a reception venue next year (maybe June 2011?) So far my front-runners are:
– Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture
Our budget is pretty small, so we’re trying to find a place that will accommodate us on a tight budget. We are planning for about 80 people and definitely want dancing. Another thing to note is that I do not want a buffet; I’d prefer family style dining. I also would like an open bar, but just beer and wine (and maybe some bubbly : )
If anyone has any experience with these venues, I would very much appreciate any thoughts or advice! Caterer recommendations would also be appreciated for the BSEC.

I’m planning a Brooklyn wedding of the same size and budget for this year. We also looked at Bacchus. I don’t know if you’ve booked your site, yet. Another somewhat promising option for us was Montauk Club, but it went a bit over our price range because we are also having a church wedding — that one depends on what else you are spending $$ on.
Another place I looked into was the Music Barge http://www.bargemusic.org/about.html They allow small events there — but you have to bring in EVERYTHING.
We are having our reception at a supper club/night club. Cafe Remy in Bay Ridge (where I live). They don’t do a lot of weddings and most of their $ comes from their night club. The have good food, a decent venue and really good prices. It does mean, however that the party has to end before the nightclub comes in (9:30). But that’s the only real drawback that I’ve found.
Our wedding isn’t until September, so I can’t say for sure how it will go, but I’ve been pleased so far.

Check out a restaurant in Fort Greene called ICI. I saw their private space in person and may use it myself if I decide to have a larger ceremony. It might be a little tight. http://www.icirestaurant.com

I would recommend Dumbo loft or even Rebar restaurant…both are affordable and hold intimate affairs

We were just looking at the Old Stone House in Park Slope. You’d have to bring in a caterer but it looks as though they have a lot of the tables & chairs etc.
