- Wedding: July 2011
Fiance and I made the decision not to invite children. The ceremony won’t start until 6:30 and the reception is immediately following at the same location. We just feel that a 8:00 dinner, etc. is too late for children. On top of that, we’re trying to keep the guest list small since we’re paying for everything.
My sister-in-law had my 6 year old niece call and ask to be a flower girl. I called my brother back and reminded him that we opted not to have children at the wedding.
I offered some solutions to occupy my nieces and nephews time. My great aunt has a lot of property and offered to let them tent camp in the yard. Although they are 15, 12, and 6 my brother insists they have a sitter. I offered right away to pay for the sitter.
My brother told me that he and his wife would not attend our wedding if their kids weren’t invited. I asked him to reconsider.
I’m obviously crushed that he can’t see it my way. Any advice?
FYI – I was not allowed to bring my then boyfriend of 3 years to their wedding because of cost. I respected their wishes and NEVER brought it up until just now in this post.
