pinkpolish:  I am 30 weeks pregnant but had brown spotting for almost a day in early pregnancy.  It was the day after having sex.  Try not to worry too much.  The blood could have been “loosened by trauma” (lifting heavy object, sex, etc.)

I had brown and pink spotting throughout my first and second trimesters and was told it was the small blood vessels in my cervix. I would get spotting after simply walking a bit more than usual or standing up too quickly. I also noticed spoting around the time my period would have been due.

I now have a happy and healthy 20 month old daughter.

Congrats on your pregnancy.

I had brown spotting for a couple days at 9 weeks. Then in the middle of the night after a couple days of the brown, I wiped and there was a small amount of pinkish red blood on the toilet paper. I freaked out and woke up my husband. The spotting turned brown again, but I went to the ER because I couldn’t get in with my doctor and I was scared. I am now cuddling my 12 week old in my arms. Everything was fine.

Unless it turns red, a little brown is fairly common from what I hear.

I had a good amount of spotting around 10 weeks.  Baby is doing fine now at 15 weeks.  Really, just try to not worry.

Ditto to what everyone else said! You have so much extra blood flow to your uterus and cervix right now, a tiny little nudge can cause spotting. I had some pink and red spotting at ten weeks in this pregnancy after a two hour long bus ride, but everything turned out to be fine. My doctor said that something like 60% of women experience some spotting in pregnancy! I found that really comforting.

The really difficult part of early pregnancy is that there are no guarantees, and short of severe cramping and heavy bleeding, few ways to predict how the pregnancy is going. Some women spot all the way through and have healthy babies. Some women have miscarriages with zero warning signs. It really, really sucks to be nervous and have no way of knowing what’s going on in there, but all you can really do is wait and see.

I’ve had a few days of spotting each week for the couple weeks,  brownish to light pink. I’m 8 weeks tomorrow.  The doctor had me go in for 2 blood draws to check my levels. They were increasing but still wants me to go in for an ultrasound, which we have scheduled for next Wednesday.

I would at least call your doctors office to let them know what is going on and see what they say. It eased my mind a little after talking to the nurse and doctor about the spotting.

pinkpolish:  You should definitely ask your doctor, but I think part of the reason why they might not be fitting you in right away is because a) there is very little to see on an ultrasound at this point, and b) there is basically nothing they could do at this point to help if you are about to miscarry. My guess is that they’d be more flexible about getting you in for an emergency later in the pregnancy. I know that to a pregnant mama, any amount of spotting is absolutely an emergency. I know it was an emergency to me when I was spotting! But to an OB who sees this all the time, it’s probably not a “clear the schedule, all hands on deck” kind of emergency. It’s so frustrating, but it seems like “wait and see” is a pretty common philosophy that OBs have about early pregnancy.

Hang in there! I hope the spotting is all done and that the next few days til your appointment pass quickly. 🙂
