We don’t have much of one. Traveling more before kids isn’t really an option since my husband is in a very time consuming PhD program. We’ll travel with kids.

We also won’t be buying a house before kids because my husband’s career path will require us to move around quite a bit for the next few years.

For us the biggest thing we wanted to do before having kids was get married. Now we are just waiting for the right timing within his PhD program. So we are currently talking about TTC this summer!

We do have a trip to Hawaii planned for June before TTC and that does factor into us waiting because I don’t want to be pregnant during that trip. But it wasn’t really a bucket list item as it was a surprise family trip gifted to us by my parents.

How strange, currently having a gin and tonic with my SO talking about this. Discussing when we would both like to TTC and what we want to do before.

i would love to travel more. I love traveling the only thing is, I love it so much that I could easily just always travel and put off TTC forever…..haha. I know I want kids though, we’ve spoken about TTC after our wedding (August 2019 – when I’ll be 31 and my SO will be 39).

We didn’t have that many things, but all of them were pretty big ticket items: (1) Getting our grad degrees (JD/PhD) and getting somewhat settled down in our careers. (2) Buying a home and getting all the high priority repairs/renovations done. (3) Hitting our travel destinations that’d be difficult to take on with a baby. (And for me alone, (4) Getting myself in better shape.)

I think we/I could’ve done even better on #3 and #4, but it is what it is…

In the past couple of years we finished all of our degrees, settled into careers, bought a house, and got a dog.

We’ve both travelled a lot as it is, and you know once you start it’s hard to stop…

Also just enjoying independence. If I want to chill on the couch all night after I get home from work I can..things like that.

Travel. Travel. Travel. Travel.

I have already done a lot of traveling, not I am no where near done. three  big trips this year (greece, istanbul and iceland) then hopefully another solid big trip or two in 2019 before we TTC at the end of 2019!

I’d like to get his career path on track, but that isnt up to me, that is up to him.

happybridetobe1988 :  I now really want gin.

I want to trek to Everest Base Camp. I’d also like to be settled with work (been a tough 12 months with work)

Most of ours were practical – buy a house, replace our cars (we’d both been driving the same cars we had as teenagers), start saving for retirement, six months of living expenses in an emergency fund and a small nest egg for baby expenses because we knew that I’d quit working after baby. We did a bit of traveling, but there were only a few places we wanted to go that we didn’t think were very kid-friendly.

Now we have a 7-month-old. I’m going to grad school next year and we have two trips planned for this summer, so he hasn’t slowed us down too much!
