I lucked out and found my dress online for a really good deal. My origional dress budget was 800. My Darling Husband was going to let me spend more but I would never justify spending more on a dress that will really only be worn once.

I figured out my dress budget first by finding the dresses that I loved on discount sites and then finding similar styled ones and their prices at  David’s bridal online. The average of them was about 1000. And then, found one that wouldf work for less. If all goes as planned my dress with alterations will still be less than 400. But like I said I kind of lucked out and am excited about the adventure of making it my own.

If you are concerned about budget remember that it is easy to get sample versions and pre owned designer dressed for sometimes 1/2 the cost if you don’t mind paying the dry cleaning. And none of your guests are going to be able to tell the difference, I promise

Like all the other wedding expenses we budgeted what we were comfortable paying and could afford to pay. With that said, my dress budget was 2k. My Mother-In-Law surprised me by buying my dress on the spot once we all decided it was the one. The dress was $1,500. But then I bought a reception dress for another $800 as well as alteration costs, a veil and a sash. I ended up over budget by about $500.

I had a $2000 budget since that was what I could afford for my own dress since I was paying for that myself. I made a full budget as we were planning for the wedding including all of my expenses. I ended up paying $1000 including alterations and put my remainder towards other areas of my wedding.

I wanted a nice dress but wasn’t willing to spend a fortune.  I set our budget at $3k for everything including alterations, veil, shoes… $2k for the dress.  Turned out my parents really wanted to buy it for me and I picked out a $1200 dress.  I’ll pay for everything else – she had mentioned $1k so when it comes I may pay the extra $200 but that’s fine since I’m eternally grateful for any of their help and I had set aside the money already.  I did use some to buy my SIL’s dress for her.

I don’t really have a dress budget only because I have nothing saved for ym dress and I have high end taste. That being said, the dresses I have fallen for are in the $5-7k range and I will be taking out a credit card to pay for it myself. God help me! lol

I sent a budget for under $1000.  I found a dress I LOVED for $950.  My mom came to the city I live in to shop with me and see the dress I loved.  We found another dress that we both loved…could’t decide…Mom urged me to go with the one we found together.  The price tag:  $1800 PLUS TAX.  A TAD over the original budget.

My dress was about $1250 and I think I get $150 in credit towards alterations, etc. My mom paid for the dress. I’m most likely using my sister’s veil so no charge for that! I’m going to go to the fashion district in downtown Los Angeles to find a headband/hair piece… they’re only about $20 there and look just as nice as the $150 from the bridal salons.

@AtotheR:  I read that you should budget about 10% of your total budget to your dress, so my budget was 6k.  I amazingly found a Monique Lhuillier for about 4k, so I was under budget!

@globalmargaret:  Congrats! That is really useful advice. Thank You. I just got engaged and I am having trouble with what to do. I dont want to spend too much on a dress that I am going once. But no way am I going to rent. Time to look online for some deals!
