We met with the catering people today, freaking awesome! We’ll get a proposal from them early next week one with just food and one for stuff they could source out for us with a price. Did some legwork on that and shoot, tents are dang expensive. I think I’m going to go sit outside with beer and a tip jar. Anyone want to join me?

I was floored when I saw the catering costs! Five figures for food! It was pretty awesome food though, so I just try to forget the price and move on!

I’m the same, our ideal reception venue was cheap compared to other ones I looked at, but it is still ove $100 per head including drinks, and we are looking at 90+ people, although I think we will try to reduce that number to keep costs down

This is only the beginning. Get ready for more sticker shock.

I cry a little everytime I see our catering bill and it’s not like we’re having steak and shrimp! We’re having a bbq station and a pasta station.

We went through major sticker shock at first. I’d really gone in with no clue how much food would cost, and it was hard to get past. I spent the first month of research totally depressed because we weren’t going to be able to do all the things we’d wanted.
We figured it out, though, and cut some things that we realized weren’t important to us, trimmed in other areas, and were thrilled with what we ended up with. Still, it was really, really hard to spend that much money on anything, even food.

Yep I went through that too, it was brutal, I think I actually took a month off planning because of it lol

a month off planning is defintely going to happen. I think the month of September. I want to nail a few more things down and then hide in a hole.
We’re not trying to have some crazy lavish wedding. Something simple and fun. Without drinks or cake or pie factored in we’re trying to do food for 35/person. I’m from the South and the wedding is in CO. So I want a Southern Family Reunion style reception, fried chicken, green beans, bbq, and just that feel good feeling.
The fact that we’re having it outside and not at a conventional venue is raising the price in terms of renting portopotties, tent, lights, dancefloor, chairs, tables, etc but it’s a family farm. And we’re going for the community and family vibe.
So the price is worth it, right? RIGHT!?

MAn i know what you mean. Tents are crazy expensive i don’t even get it. When i look at my spreadsheet with all the totals put together of the whole wedding i want to run and hide……..or find my fav bottle of wine.

ya, if i wasn’t on this big ‘hydration’ kick right now, i would be up for drinking. Wedding planning is stressing me, and causing zits!!! AAAAAAHHHHH. So only water for now, gotta hydrate.
I’m trying desperately to cut people i dont know from the wedding. If i hear one more “well your inviting his brother you cant cut him! its family!”
Well i know the brother…i DONT know anyone else. Go away. LOL

I don’t want to cut my list but I had to STOP adding people to it LOL! Food is crazy and it is eating up the bulk of our budget. As crazy as it seems though we might have found a caterer that is willing to work with us and offer us an option that is less than $10 p/p. I am so pchyed. With this I can pay down half right now and be done with the caterer and move on to other things yay!

So everytime my phone alerts me that I have an email my heart stops and I check to see if it’s the caterer with the proposal. At this point I am ready for them to do all of it and just eat the 5% service charge on rentals that they source out. I’m excited to see what the chef has come up with!
I talked to my mom today to see what number my parents came up with and it was much higher than I expected so I suggested they half that, times are tough for all of us. And even half is more than we had hoped to get from them. So I’m feeling some relief there.
If only I can get a temp job, I feel like I’ll be sitting easy breezy. Or win the lotto, except I don’t play. I should start.
I hear y’all on adding people. I was hoping to take a few folks off the list but then mom said that 5 of those that I thought wouldn’t come are going to try their hardest. And as much as I want them there, it’s going to cost more. Where is that money tree?

And that is why i chose not to have a sit down dinner or buffet. Just little finger sandwiches and cake.
