Oh I know how you feel – it is a lot of money, whether you are on a larger or smaller budget. I can’t say I have regrets yet, as I’m pretty far out, BUT I do have something that might help you. I started a post the other day for all the bees to post their budget secrets! I’ve found it tremendously helpful. Here’s a link: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/budget-brides-care-to-share-your-knowledge

It’s stressful and it’s a pretty large amount of money (no matter the budget) so just know that you are not feeling something others haven’t. I’ve only been a Bridesmaid or Best Man once (and will be again later this year, but not yet) and that didn’t even begin to help you learn the gravity of the cost of weddings. Good luck and check that thread out!

@ashleylabrie: Yes! I was surprised at all the advice I got posting that. It’s FULL of tips to keep the budget down, you just have to sift through them. Oh, and you’re welcome I hope it helps!

I was definitely sticker shocked when I realized my total budget. But, then I broke it down. I spent less than $60 per person (and that includes my dress, shoes, jewelry, etc). What’s $60 a person? Yes, I spent over $11,000 – but I gave over 200 people a great night and ourselves wonderful memories.

Don’t stress out so much that you don’t enjoy your own wedding. Don’t mistakes that you’ll regret one day.

well I am going through what your going through and my wedding is under 3000 too. I will give you all the tips that I can um lets see. I wanted beautiful flowers as well, I hated the thoughht of people coming and there being no flowers. So i shopped all over the place and finally found a website with great reviews all over the website. Bunches direct. I am having my bridesmaids carry a single white rose, all the mothers/ grandmothers will have wrist corsages, and I am ordering 7 boutonnieres, and 2 small centerpieces, 400 rose petals, and my bouquet. I am spending 260.00 on almost all my flowers. I decided to have a saturday afternoon at 3 pm. I decided since it wasn’t a meal time I would have an all dessert reception :D! I will have personalized goodie bags for candy and cookies. ( I’m having a cookie bar, and a candy buffet) I will also be DIY’g the small cake boxes. I got my dress from davids bridal while it was on sale for a GREAT price. I am getting all food for about 300$ from a wonderful local caterer. Since it is in a pretty small town in monroe la where I am having the wedding. Hope I hepled soon.

I knew weddings were expensive going in. ๐Ÿ™‚ In fact, I figured my wedding would be between $10k and $15k (which I thought was pretty reasonable). Once I started looking at where that money goes, and what I was willing to spend on certain things, I was able to lower my $ expectation based on things I didn’t feel were worth it for our wedding. ๐Ÿ™‚ I agree that there are certain things I’m like “Seriously? Seriously???” (flowers being one of them). Of course I’d love a big budget, but it’s not there, so I don’t worry about it.

I also love the first dress you chose. I wouldn’t worry about getting another one (unless you end up not being able to alter it) since you are trying to stick to your budget. I actually think the one you bought is much more timeless than the AA one. I’m having a bit of dress regret myself, but I can’t afford to be a 2 dress bride (and it would break my mom’s heart since she ended up purchasing my dress).

Although I love this forum and it is a great support, it also makes me second guess my choices because there are just so many options and opinions here & new styles constantly catering to a big budget and blingy bride. There’s just too much info about weddings available instantly nowadays. I had only been to a handful of weddings as well.

I’m really happy with everything I’ve chosen so far (except maybe my dress, but I try to think of all the positives instead :P). And, honestly, no one is going to care but me.

I freaked out over every single thing we purchased. My husband was the opposite though, he kept saying it’s our special day so it’s ok to spend some money. I think we had a good balance b/c I wouldn’t let us spend a lot but we still were able to have a nice wedding.

I also didnt want to spend a fortune, but I gradually realized that there were some things I didnt want to sacrifice. our budget started at 6K and now its about 7K and change because we changed our venue to a nicer hall, and decided to have a limo instead of use our cars

I am a firm budget bride. I plan to have it at 2000 and it is staying at 2000. But I am also super non-traditional and I have connections. So many connections. So I know in many ways I am lucky. As well I am artistically inclined. So that helps with the DIYing.

And we are self-caterering.

I experienced some real sticker shock at first. Then I started thinking of it piece by piece. My fiance and I thought about what was most important and what we didnt need.

We cut out the bridal party, and transportation. Only having close friends and immediate family. We are using a gallery which is much cheaper than a banquet hall. The gallery allows us to bring in our own alchol and food. It also has tons of free parking. ๐Ÿ™‚ We are doing terrariums instead of floral centerpieces. I have horrible allergies and fiance is a science nerd so this fit for us.

We also found our connections are volunteering to help by offering discounted services or things at cost.
