Our budget is $5000 and I was able to hire someone in the PR office from my company who does weddings on the side. He charges $650 for the ENTIRE day! It is a steal in the area I live. Most other professionals are over $2k. We haven’t had our day, but he does lots of photography for the company and it is great!

We had also contacted photography students at the local community colleges.

We’re on a less than $5000 budget and we were originally going to go with a friend who is just starting her photography business but she ended up booking another wedding (ARGH) on the same day. I was frantic since I know most professional photographers in our area charge at least $1000 which is soooo not gonna happen for us. I posted my whoas on FB and an old friend from HS sent me to a friend of hers who lives in the area who does photography on the side and he was willing to do our wedding for the original price taht my friend was going to do it ($250 for 5 hours). He’s never done a wedding before, but the pictures he has taken are good so I’m praying to GOD that our pictures come out okay. We’re just 17 days out and I’m freaking LOL

Our wedding ended up costing $6500 and $1300 went to the photographer. What we did was find a photographer we loved and hired them hourly. So instead of paying thousands for a package with engagement pics and 8-10 hours of wedding day photography, I only got 4 hours of wedding day coverage. For me, having 4 hours of quality pics from a photog I LOVED was totally worth it and I wouldn’t change a thing.

i was shocked when i started getting quotes back from professional photographers. i know that this is one of the most important days of our lives, but i couldn’t see spending a minimum of $3000 on pictures alone. luckily, my FI’s co-worker does it on the side and we got her for the whole day for $750 including a CD of the pictures and some photos and a photoalbum.

My budget is less than $5000 and I was really thinking we couldn’t afford a professional photographer.  All the wedding pros were over what I could afford and some were WAY over what I woudl ever pay for pictures.

I was not looking awesome out of this world photos: I just want decent pics of our day.  I went into a local photography studio near my house and asked if the photographer did weddings… happens he did and his daughter showed me some pics of a wedding he had done recently. I booked him right away.  His price: $220 for full coverage.  yeah, a steal!  Could not be happier.  I don’t expect much, just a pro to take some pictures.

Find friends/family or even college students who maybe take pictures as a hobby or are trying to get estabilished in the community as a photographer.  Students and new photographers will charge less (if at all sometimes students just want experience for their course credits).

For us we are extremely lucky that my uncle takes photos as a hobby and my cousin went to school for photo journalism (currently works for a university taking their sports photos).  They will only charge us for prints we want and the film.  So we’ll be getting pictures for a steal.

Our budget is max $5,000. We aren’t having a photographer at all. We’re having such a small wedding with a ceremony in the courthouse and a small private dinner. My dad used to work as a professional photographer and will be taking pictures, and I’m sure other people will take some too. That’s good enough for us.

If you have no friends I’d suggest Craigslist.  If you know what you are doing.  We found someone through searching all over, who is starting out a business they are doing 8 hours for $500 and we get two shooters.

They have done a few weddings and I am excited but nervous as well.  It took a while to find Fiance was being very picky when it came to pictures, I got him to be a little more flexible when I explained that to get what he wanted we would have to pay 2K and our budget is like 2K or less for the entire ceremony (were are getting a lot of things for free.)

I actually found our engagement photographer on craigslist. She’s a college student and did an amazing job. Unfortunatley she couldn’t do the wedding, so we hired a prop. But we will be getting our videogrpher off craigslist. Just have to go through each post and see what you can find. Good luck!

I asked my mom and she told me her friend from work does photography on the side, so we asked him and said yes, he’ll be doing it for free. We lucked out there big time. I think you found a good deal though, looking for someone starting out in the business, they are willing to work for less money just for the portfolio work.

I know I don’t exactly fall into your budget bride category, as our wedding was $8,500 (including absolutely everything) BUT I found a newer photographer and chose their second-to-lowest option for coverage. I believe it ended up being $1,700. I think I could have gotten the photography for $1,200 as the cheapest package.

At least where I live there are a TON of people trying out photography, either as a business or as a hobby. The girl that did mine had maybe one or two years experience, so I had seen some work but not a ton. I found her through Facebook. Now I feel like there are TONS of these types of photography start-ups in my area. Is there not anything similar for you guys?

I agree with PP about craigslist. We were originally going to have a friend of the family do it for free, but she had an incident about a month before the wedding that prevented her from coming to the wedding. I frantically searched for photographers online, and I was disgusted with how much they charge. So, I put an ad on the “events and gigs” boards on craigslist in my area, and I was blown away by the responses! I put in the ad that I could only pay $500, from 9 am to 2 pm, and the location. All of a sudden, photographers that usually charge three times as much told me that they could work within my budget, that they have slots to fill for summer, etc. I think I got about 30 emails within two days. But I was able to pick one that I really liked. She happened to be a student in her last year of photojournalism, but I had a lot of responses from pros as well. I just liked her style best. I was a little worried how they would come out, but they were beautiful!  She did an awesome job! And it IS possible to find inexpensive but quality photography!

It’s time to go to bed… i just read Budget Brides and Pornography…

In any case my guy is doing it for $500. Check out a local college and see what a photography student can do for you. a lot of times they need models so its a win win. Have them do a pre wedding shoot so you know you like the pictures they take before the big day
