I haven’t gotten married, but our photographer is only charging $750, and we get him all day, and an 2nd photographer. One of our groomsmen just got married about a month ago and his photographs were absolutely amazing. And he didn’t give us any type of discount, that’s his normal charge. He is just super awesome and understands not everyone has 3 grand to spend on pictures! Haha!

Although, I am here on weddingbee as a soon to be bride, I saw your post and wanted to give you some help as my fiance and I own a wedding company and have been filming and photographing weddings for over a decade.  It’s not impossible to find a photographer under 1k, your best bet is really to find someone who is talented but is just starting out, they are usually willing to do it for much less to build their reputation and portfolio.  My major words of wisdom here are BE CAREFUL.  Largely me experience with “cheap” wedding photography is that it ends up looking cheap.  If something is under 1k, ask why.  Are they going to charge you for every photo print making your photo budget skyrocket after the wedding?  Ask questions about the portfolio, we have had our photos stolen and put on someone else’s website claiming them as your their own,  It happens all the time and it sucks.  I’m not trying to scare you but keep in mind that photos, video are the only parts of the wedding that you take with you.  I am also on a budget but I am cutting other things for great photo and video,  I know first hand how important they are years down the road. Your flowers will die, your dress will go in a box never to be worn again, but your photos will be with you forever.  My only other budge advice is to only hire a photographer for a few hours rather then the whole wedding day.  Get someone to shoot the ceremony and some portraits and rely on instagram for the reception.  You might find someone willing to cut their cost if its a shorter day for them, meaning less photos to edit later.

Check out student photographers! When I first got engaged, I fell in love with a photographer…turns out, she is a student and only charges $850. She had done a TON of weddings and got really great reviews, too. Unfortunately, she was graduating and moving across the country before our wedding date, but I definitely would have used her if she hadn’t. Now we’re looking at $3,000+ photographers, and that really stings, especially knowing I could have worked with someone so great for so cheap.

You need to find someone like me. Im trying to bulied a portfolio so I charge very little because of it. If people like what they see of the work I have done, they hire me and we work out what we think is fair together.
