Our wedding budget is pretty tight, mostly because we want to purchase a house within the same period as getting married. So we have been doing everything as budget friendly as possible, getting a venue through my work, buying EVERYTHING on sale, going with a less expensive dress (all totally awesome and stuff I love).
But every once in a while, I find myself compelled to make a little purchase I find completely unreasonable but something I SOOOO want.
Case in point: http://www.etsy.com/search?q=bride%20groom%20forks&order=most_relevant&view_type=gallery&ship_to=ZZ&min=&max=16
Is anyone actually going to notice these the day of? Nope. Even me? Probably not. But do I want them enough to buy them and stare at them every now and then and get excited for the next 9 months: YES YES YES YES YES YES.
At $14, it’s not crazy- but stil, I find myself rolling my eyes a little as I silently squeeled when I pushed the purchase button.
Ladies- Have you made any splurges (big or little) that were just completely unreasonably unneccesary but made you crazily happy?

Yes! I had planned on wearing some shoes that I already have, but totally fell in love with a pair of Seychelles that I got for $40 brand new! I can’t wait to wear them! I suppose I justified my purchase by telling myself that I only spent half my dress budget!!

Yes! I was going to DIY a bunch of stuff, but I ended up buying all of the little “touches” on Etsy! Also, my Bagdley Mishka’s were $300… But I got them half off! I just HAD to have them with that sort of sale.

My card box, ridiculously expensive and totally overpriced but I love it and it now sits on my dresser filled with wedding junk. But we didn’t count it as a wedding splurge necessarily, my husband gave it to me as my birthday present 🙂
Here it is

We splurged big on our photographer. We had only budgeted for $1,500 for our photographer, but the prices in NY can be $5000 or more for a good one. We found one we really liked and haggled him down to $3900. After thinking about it for a while, my Fiance and I realized we really wanted to preserve the memories of the day in a really special way. Photos end up being the most lasting part of the wedding day. That’s why we decided to splurge, and I don’t regret it at all.

Oh man, $14 forks… I wish that was my splurge haha!! I have my eye on $370 custom cake toppers. I’m SO TORN. That’s almost as much as the dress I’m close to buying! But they’re SO CUTE and they carve your own faces into them and customize the clothing and posing, and… oh man. I don’t know what to do.

I wish I could say $14 was my splurge. So glad you did it. A few years ago Fiance bought me gorgeous jimmy choo sparkle shoes I love to death. I always said I would wear them for the wedding. Of course I found another pair that “matched” better for $250. That’s $250 I didnt need to spend but I didnt buy another pair of jimmy choos.

Absolutely! As time went on, it was pretty clear that all my efforts to keep us under a certain budget were going good, and I started adding little things in. Faux mercury glass votives (still with coupons from Michaels, so ultimately about $25) instead of using clear glass ones the venue has, last-minute fun hair pins, getting my hair and makeup done instead of doing them myself (again, relatively on the cheap). We’re still DIYing flowers, but getting quite a lot of them, which may not be necessary, but I love the idea of not having to stress about how we use each and every stem. Fiance finally got excited about stuff and wound up getting us a wedding stamp tree (like a fingerprint tree) from Etsy, as well as a little card box and a cake cutting set.
Wow, this starts to sound like a lot of splurges. I guess the reality is that I cut the things the budget had to cover down to bare bones, and then as things have progressed, some fun details have gotten back into the mix. Makes me happy!

I was actually really good about our budget, but my Fiance splurged and got me shoes. I fell in love with a pair of pink Cole Haans which were normally $300+ and I guess he fell in love with them too lol, but he got them on sale for under $150.

Ugh I had the worst splurge ever!! I bought a $500 jennifer Behr headband that was non-returnable. I ended up changing my mind and not wearing it.
Among other ridiculous splurges…a $200 cake topper….jadeite cake stands…the list goes on and on
I really regret that headband though!!

Yeah, I am splurging on transportation for the wedding. Not really a splurge as it’s very reasonable BUT I wasn’t going to get transportation. I am happy I decided to though.
Also going to personalize my cake serving set even though its more to do so than I wanted to spend. But I want it personalized.
I am sure there are more things I added to the budget that I really didn;t need… even though they are reasonably priced, they are still splurges for me.
