- Wedding: March 2011
Here’s the deal:
We are marrying over spring break (full time college students, both of us, with kids in school too)… so we will be in Iowa for the wedding for the entire spring break week and we will marry on Saturday, return to Texas Sunday or Monday (may play hooky one day from school to rest and regroup).
We would like a honeymoon.. who wouldn’t? For our “real” honeymoon we wanted to do Colorado because we LOVE it there, but by the time we have time to do it there will not be much snow I don’t think so we might do something tropical instead, or a cruise. We won’t be able to do our real honeymoon until school is out for summer at the earliest.
So we are thinking of doing a “mini moon” over Easter weekend since we’ll have Good Friday off from school and again if need be we can maybe play hooky on the Monday after depending on what’s going on. So we’d have nights away and that’s it.
We don’t like to miss a lot of school but we know it’s okay if we don’t have any major exams or anything due and not caught up, we can handle a day’s absence and be fine and for the mini-moon my eldest son (18) would stay with the younger two and get them to school that Monday.
But we don’t want to spend a lot, because we want to have most of our money still for the “real” honeymoon.. And we don’t really know where to go.
We talked about Corpus Christi because I grew up down there, and we are marrying in Iowa where Fiance grew up so it seemed kind of poetic. I am not sold on that though, because, well, I grew up there, I’ve seen all there is to see there. It is a good time of year to go though, not TOO hot yet. I’m just bored with Texas in general, beaches included. At least the Texas I’ve seen/lived in (Dallas/Austin/San ANtonio/Corpus mainly).
Lately we’ve talked about New Orleans. I am guessing it will be pretty warm around Easter though.. and I know it’s even more humid there than here, and Fiance and I both pretty much loathe the heat… but she has never been to New Orleans and I haven’t been since I was 20 (and I had a baby with me, no fun!)… so we are still considering it. Not sure how inexpensive it would really be though. It’s not feasible to drive for such a short trip and airfare, even SW Airline “deals” are still going to cost us about $400 round trip unless we get super lucky and they have a big sale. It depends on what else we could do while there and where to stay and all that I suppose. That would affect total price and all.
We talked about Mexico and nixed that immediately due to price. It’s just not worth it for 3 nights, because if we wait and do something similar in June it will be just a little more money for a whole WEEK’s vacation.
We don’t want a “staycation” because quite frankly we hate San Antonio, and we don’t want Austin because I went there for my wedding night to the ex. And have the dumb matching tattoo as proof.
About us: we are laid back, not into camping unless it’s cold out, like good food and history and funky places. Ideally like to lounge around a lot. Drink good coffee. Good music. (Sounds like New Orleans I guess, huh?)
Anything I haven’t thought about that we can do without spending too much?
