I am sorry you are having issues with your father. My stepdad is the same way. I am just hoping he doesn’t say anything on my wedding day.

That is a beautiful gown, and if that is you in it, I think it is perfect the way it is, and no weight needs to be lost.

Sorry-Some men just don’t know what to say-or how to say it.  :s  Train your husband how to talk to you, like I did.  :-s  He knows what not to say when I say “do these pants make me look fat” -Obviously your mother never taught your father!!!  I think you look absolutely GORGEOUS in your gown now-however, if you plan on loosing that much more weight, you probably do need to wait to order your gown later.  You are doing GREAT!!! And FWIW–I don’t think you need to lose any more weight from the photo you posted.

You really look absolutely perfect in that gown.  I really don’t think you need to lose any more weight.  If you feel like you need to -try doing things to firm your muscles.   But really you do look AMAZING!!!

I think you have a gorgeous figure!

Screw your Dad! I’m the only plus sized sibling. My Dad makes comments about my weight almost every time I talk to him (which is every few months…if that).

You look LOVELY!!!!

My Dad used to make comments like that to me as well when I was younger as well. I am 5’7″ and back in high school weighed like 140 and still my Dad would tell me I was fat. I still resent him for it because that is the kind of behavior that causes women to have so many body issues, eating disorders etc. Honestly there will always be people trying to put you down but you need to love yourself the way you are. If you lose weight great, if you gain weight in the future fine, it doesn’t really matter if you just love yourself the way you are.

I think the dress is a good choice, its very flattering on your figure and you look great in it. Tell your Dad you don’t appreciate that and would like him to keep his thoughts to himself.

Has he seen pictures of you in the dress? I bet he would eat his words if he did! It looks gorgeous on you and no matter how much more weight you lose it will continue to do so! Sometimes dad’s just aren’t very tactful.

i say go for it! You ook great in that dress!. I am plus sized too… and have lost 30 lbs in the last year ( trying for another 10 before the wedding). I bough a dress off the rack that  looked great on me and fit me, and it still has to be altered for other things ( hem line, bust a bit, straps etc) so there will be alterations no matter what.

As far as time frame for ordering the dress… do it now. I went dress shopping at the end of december (6 months out from the wedding) and the bridal botique scoffed at me for waiting so long. Most dresses aparently take 4-5 months ( or longer) to be made and shipped to the store, once you add on time for alterations, the sooner the better for purchasing.

Definitely not a nice thing to say and not even remotely true. You look great in it as is, and your dad was way out of line.

Hmmm, that wasn’t nice of your father to say, and I don’t agree with how he said it, but he might be right about waiting on the dress.

So many threads have come up about women wanting a different dress after they have lost weight. Clothes tend to fit differently at different weights, and if you continue to loose weight you might find another style you like even more and be bummed that you’re stuck with the first dress.

If you have a year to go, would it be prudent to wait 6 months before ordering? Then you might have a better idea of how you’ll fit things at the one year mark. Can you check and see if 6 months is plenty of time for ordering this dress?

Way to go on your 17lbs, that is awesome!! I wish I could say the same!
