My absolutely wonderful boyfriend and I have talked about getting engaged within the next year or two (my wedding date is definitely a made up one!). We both are in college on scholarships–I have an academic one, and he has a football one. Because he plays football, he does not have the time to work during the school year. This means that the only time he has to work is during the summer.
Basically, the point of that long explanation is that we are looking for some inexpensive rings options. I do have a list of things I would PREFER in my ring, but none of it is concrete.
He would like the ring to be under $350, unless I contribute. (I wouldn’t mind at all, but I would still like the ring to be under $500.)
I am so indecisive that I think a white colored centerstone would be best.
However, his birthstone is a sapphire, and sapphires HAPPEN to be my absolute favorite gemstone, so a blue sapphire ring is also an option. BF would also prefer that I incorporate a blue sapphire somewhere into the engagement ring or wedding band.
I am interested in any style, but BF has told me that he doesn’t want a pre-owned ring.
If you guys have any ideas, links, or pics, it would be greatly appreciated!
@abirdword: Thanks so much! I adore moissy, but they just seem so expensive! I currently wear a size 5.5, but for my engagement ring I definitely will be getting a 5.75-6.0 because the 5.5 is TOO snug to take on and off. What size centerstone would you recommend for my fairly skinny, fairly long finger?
@MrsSkeletonKey: Oh my gosh, that ring is beautiful! I love halo rings, and I love blue sapphires, so that is just gorgeous! Did you find that you had to clean the white sapphires often? I have heard that they require constant cleaning, which is one reason why I am shying away from them…
@frommisstomrs.: LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! I see that ring on Etsy, and I stop and stare everytime. But, again, I am concerned about that cleaning of white sapphires. I don’t want it to become a hassle having to clean my ring everyday!
I don’t feel like they get dirty very often at all. When I wore that ring constantly I cleaned it about once a week and it was always super shiny. I think the cleaning issue is more pertaining to larger white sapphier center stones as opposed to melee/pave.
My engagement ring is a moissanite in a diamond halo and while the diamonds shine a little more than the sapphires, they both stay clean for equally long in my experience.
Try looking at jewelry stores for estate rings, I have a friend who got his now fiance a gorgeous antique natural sapphire ring (it’s a group of them but not at all what you think when you hear the word “cluster,” it’s not quad-set or anything, not that there’s anything wrong with those rings) in 18k gold for about $300.
I also saw the same blue/white sapphire ring in Sam’s and I thought it was sooooooooooo pretty! I wanted it lol.
I think you should go with a blue/pink sapphire unless you really like the look of white sapphire. All the white sapphire I’ve seen in shop kinda look like glass(I’m sure there are ones that look very pretty, just I’ve never seen one in person).
