@Almost Mrs.P:  Hi there! We had a similar problem trying to find a venue in the Boston area. We looked into Smolak Farms in North Andover but ultimately decided to get married in Burlington Vermont at the Old Lantern. It;s 3 1/2 hours from Boston but for us it makes sense. Plus we fell in love in Vermont so it has special meaning.

I’m nt sure if that helped but good luck! Keep us postd on what you find 🙂

Hey there great venue on the north shore is Groveland Fairways in Groveland MA. Beautiful grounds and extremely affordable. My sister is getting married there in Sept and I will be having my wedding there on New Years. Liz the wedding coordinator is fabulous and they give you a ton of affordable catering options. check it out online or their Facebook page you wont be disapointed!!

we looked at the Warren Center in Ashland. It was less expensive than other venues we looked and it was really pretty…just too small for us.

Tuckerman Hall on Worcester, if you’re willing to go that far!  My sister loved it, but wanted an outdoors wedding so went with a country club instead.

look at wannamoisett country club in rumford ri. but dont worry about the RI part i swear! its right over the mass line. Near attleboro, seekonk. they have been wonderful WONDERFUL to us. you only pay meal charge and the gratuity and tax. no hidden room fees, bartender fees etc etc. they only do one wedding a day. julie the coordinator treats you like you are her own children getting married, knows you by name and date. when we sat down to go over all of our finaly details she even threw in a ton of cocktail hour extras at no cost. SCORE!

give them a call!!!   http://wannamoisett.memberstatements.com/tour/tours.cfm?tourid=79304

check out Chesters at Bell Tower Square in Lawrence. It was cheaper than everything else I looked at in the area, and also more unique.  Its a converted shoe mill with an art gallery attached.

PS what’s “budget” in your opinion? We had a “budget” wedding at Cafe Escadrille in Burlington…but it was just budget because it wasn’t in the city. IT was absolutely gorgeous, and Mario the manager was fanastic. I would have another event there in a heartbeat.

There are some great budget venues on the Cape and MV, Oak Bluffs Sailing Camp on the Vineyard is beatuiful, Camp Wing in Duxbury is rustic and perfect for a DIY bride, There is also the Winslow House in Marshfield which has a historic outdoorsy feel, and the Falmouth Yacht Club on the Cape, literally right on the water, it was recently updated and there are a lot of hotel options very close by.

We’re having our reception at the Devens Common in Devens, MA.  It’s about 45 minutes outside the city (straight out rt 2).  It’s a hotel ballroom, so maybe not the “character” that it sounds like you may be looking for in a venue, but it’s very reasonably priced compared to everything else I looked at.  The building is also only 7 years old so it’s not a drab or dated as some ballrooms I looked at and it feels very elegant.
