I’m not sure the style of your wedding, or how many guests, but what about asking your friends and family to borrow their china for the night?  It would be free and you could mix and match the different patterns that everyone has to pull together an eclectic look.

I am not having a really elegant wedding, more vintage very DIY and a little casual – it’s a celebration of my marriage between our friends and family so I’m not too worried about it looking expensive… but we are using the nice-looking clear plastic plates from Walmart, they were about $40 for 90 plates, and we got plastic forks.

I was just at party city the other day, and they have some very pretty and elegant plastic table wear. They have clear in round or square plates, or cream with gold trim and some gorgeous gold glitter champagne flutes that match, if that fits your color scheme. I beleive they also had white with silver. Also they had very realistic silvertone plastic silverwear.

It would be very cheap and if you’re ambitious enough you could wash them off and use them again later. I was just tickled pink to find such classy plastic plates I wanted to buy them all on the spot!

I am not a fan of plastic, but I suggest you get a sample place setting and set it up how you want it, then make your decision. If you use plastic silverware, in my opinion, it will not look elegant. You can also check out Dollar Tree and the Dollar Store for inexpensive case of glassware.

I don’t know if you have a BJ’s in your area, but i know that they have bulk plates that look like glass white with a silver stripe around the edges and they have plastic silverwear that look silver.  I went to a party that had this set up and it didn’t look bad at all.  people won’t be able to tell the diff until they lift them.

Sometimes World Market has great deals. Before a large party that Fiance and I held, we went there and bought plain but nice Libbey stemless wine glasses on sale for $1 per glass! It’s worth a look. You may also want to hit up yard/estate sales to collect vintage plates/silver, although you would have to find a lot 🙂 Good luck!

Check out Sam’s and Costco too. They have the plastic plates that look like china and the silver plastic silverware.
