For those who don’t know, we are 25 wks pregant, due Jan 22nd, and i would just love to have a very cheap xmas this year so we can save for the baby…a friend is doing our maternity photos for free beforehand, maybe around the beginning of December and i’d love to include them somehow in everyone’s gift. Darling Husband and I have discussed that we will still get presents for nephews/neices/godson…but that for g’rents, parents, siblings – we can do something a lil more simpler and inexpensive…
my initial idea is to bake cookies and put them in some kind of keepsake tin/mug/box/basket, etc with a wallet size maternity photo of us and some cute saying like ‘precious cargo’ or something of the sort…but i can’t come up with an exact plan that i like!
so i need opinions/suggestions –
1) what ‘keepsake’ could i use that would still be inexpensive (i’ve looked briefly at dollar tree and thought maybe a coffee mug? but not everyone in our family drinks coffee)
2) what cute saying could i use to put on it? (whether on the tag, or actual keepsake, etc)
3) what other fillers besides cookies might go with the overall gift better?

- Wedding: July 2012 - The Gables Inn, Santa Rosa, CA
homemade fudge and candy gogreat with cookies, same with caramel or chocolate clusters.
You could also do mason jars with the dry ingredients to a baked good like this:

How about something a bit more useful (so many sweets that get thrown out at xmas time and so many trinkets that take up space)
What kind of budget are you thinking? There are great things you can buy cheap! (such as some basic, but nice winter gloves)
Get small individual bottles and make flavored oil (buy the oil in quantity and decant out), really easy to make rosemary garlic.
Or buy plain bulb xmas ornaments and paint people’s names on them and glue some ribbon on it to make a nice personalized gift.

@juliette.eliza: that looks cool! i think i have a ton of mason jars too left over from my wedding 🙂
@ThreeMeers: i haven’t set a budget yet but as inexpensive as i can get. i hear you on the edible gifts but i suppose thats why i was thinking of something small so that it wouldn’t be too much cookies that would go to waste if they didn’t eat them, and then the keepsake could be kept in the long run…
