We are doing a buffet-style dinner at our reception, but still want to do a setting at each seat with a menu card folded pocket-style with a menu card in the pocket. Do any of you think this would be weird or awkward? Will guests be expecting a plated dinner if we do this, or do you think they will get the hint when they see the buffet?

I don’t think its weird to have menus when you are serving buffet style, people like to know what they are eating before the walk up to the buffet line, just as they like to know what they are eating before the food comes out. It’ll def work and be a nice little something to add to the tables 🙂

We’re doing this. We’re having people get drinks from servers/the bar and we’re putting flatware and plates at the buffet, but we’re putting folded napkins with menus at each place setting, just to make the table look a little less empty.

I would place the silverware and napkins but no plate. People may not really think to bring their plate up to the buffet… or instead of a plate, put a charger that they can place their filled plate on. I’m sure they’ll realize its a buffet, but I find buffets easier to navigate when you grab your plate from the start.

I agree, no plate at the table, but the rest is fine. You wouldn’t want them to use a "dirty" plate at the buffet and it might confuse some if it’s already there.

I think it’s a great idea! We are doing the same thing.
I agree about the plates being left at the buffet stations. Our venue is going to serve salad tableside while guests wait to get in line for the buffet. That way no one gets too hungry and feel like it’s taking forever. 🙂

I think its a good idea, just have the plate at the buffet line and have the rest of the table setting at the table!
