I’m really surprised so many people prefer plated! I love getting to pick my own food and proportions and make my own decisions. I also hate sitting for long periods of time so I like the excuse a buffet brings to get up and walk around.

I’ve only been to one plated wedding, and although the bride and groom knew I was a vegetarian, the server brought me chicken. When I asked for the vegetarian option instead, she rolled her eyes at me and asked the person next to me, “Are you a REGULAR-tarian?” and plopped down the plate she had just handed to me before going back to get my meal.
So, I voted buffet because it has more options and less judgement. Lol.

If you can afford it, plated. By FAR plated.

Buffet! vegetarian plated dinners usually leave something to be desired.

@Regina Phalange: seriously? wow! I would have tripped her as she walked away. not really but I would definitely be thinking it…..

On second thought, after reading through this, if the buffet choices are the same as the plated choices, I’d probably choose plated.
I’m not necessarily against plated as much as I’m against the standard protein, starch, veggie combination.

I prefer buffets because I’m a picky eater.

It all depends on the options and the execution. I’ve been to a wedding that was plated and the food was bad…I mean really bad. And because I love having a lot of options I will choose buffet (which I am having for my wedding). However, a well executed plated dinner where the guest has a few options can be great as well

Buffets for several reasons:
1. In my social circle, they are more common because the weddings are larger (175 +)
2. I don’t like to wait to get the party started!
I’ve been to several weddings with sit down dinners and they are very wonderful!! I think buffets can be done in a classy way, for sure!

I prefer plated. I like that it feels more formal and I always feel horrible seeing older people (grandparents, etc.) have to stand in line to food.
I also feel that buffet meals take longer to finish (as you have to wait for everyone to get up and get their food, then finish their food) before the rest of the party can begin.

I am a very picky eater and I prefer plated. I am a germaphobe and I hate the idea of a bunch of people touching the food before me, I know the staff still touches the food but they are held to higher health standards.

I love them both. I’ve been to lots of weddings and had both. I really love BBQ style food but served.
