(Closed) Buffet vs. Stations

We did a buffet.  Our preference was actually family style, but we didn’t find anyone that would do that with the type of food we wanted.  We had our MC call up a table or two at a time to go get food.  People starting eating when they got back to their tables, so everyone was NOT eating at the same time.  Then once all tables were called, people were free to go get more food.  We did our speeches during dinner, but obviously after people had all had their first trip.  During a couple of speeches people were up getting food, but the speeches were at the front and the food was at the back, so it wasn’t distracting to anyone.  If there is anyway to set it up so that the buffet is out of the way, I would do that.

I also suggest closing the bar during dinner.  We did this and I’m glad we did.  We put wine bottles on all the tables and had the bar open prior to dinner, and then closed it when food service started.  Then when dinner had finished we re-opened it.  It’s also a great way to save money if you are doing an open bar where you pay by the hour or how much is consumed!
