I have found a dress that I absolutely adore, the Maggie Sottero Gatsby, and now I am stuck with the dilemma of what colors to use. We are getting married in a small church a few days after Christmas. The church will be decorated with beautiful Christmas decorations already, so we will not need to decorate at all. The main colors that were used were reds and golds, and with me choosing the Gatsby dress I am unsure of what colors the bridesmaids should wear. Please help!! Any suggestions would be appreciated.
My bridesmaid will have just had a baby, so figure friendly dress suggestions would be nice. Also, anyone that has worn this dress, or plans to, could you point me in the direction of a complimentary flower girl dress.
Can anyone tell that I am VERY clueless when it comes to wedding planning?

I don’t think your dress has any effect on the color the bridesmaids should wear, just the formality. I think a lovely champagne colored bridesmaids dress would go great with the colors of the church and the holiday vibe (red might be too vibrant)… check out some of the big retailers like Dessy or Alfred Angelo and you’ll find tons of options.

I think we always kinda design around the dress, right? I mean it has the look, feel we want for the day…
Umm suggestions? Don’t try and match the bridesmaids dresses to your drop waist! haha I know that’d be BAD on me and there are other styles that are more figure flattering. The red and gold combo will look great with your dress! – Just match the dress in formality and get a style that flatters them.
What about red dresses for the girls? with gold accessories?
By The Way, LOVE a Christmas wedding 🙂

I also think champagne colored dresses would be great! Red might be too much.

Are you wearing Gatsby in champagne (like the picture) or a shade of white? If it’s white anything will go. If it’s champagne I’d avoid gold for your BMs unless you’re able to match it against a swatch. Champagne is a lovely brownish gold while other golds are more yellow which probably wouldn’t match. You’d probably need to have them in some sort of dark gold.
I think a rich dark red or burgundy would look great on your BMs – still Christmassy but not too bright. Anything too bright could stand out too much and even make your dress look dull in comparison (which it’s not – it’s incredible!)

Oh yes, and my sister / Bridesmaid or Best Man had her baby 5 weeks before the wedding, and she looked gorgeous in an empire line style, which allowed her tummy to fit no matter what!
The particular dress was also convertible at the top into 12+ styles so she could wear it with a nursing bra and cover up her larger-than-normal cleavage, while my other Bridesmaid or Best Man could wear it in a style more flattering to her figure. I bought them from Kookai but you can get similar ones at http://www.twobirdsbridesmaid.com.

Inspirations comes in many forms! I saw some amazing pictures where the whole color scheme was based on the groom’s colorful tie. Red and gold are a nice combination, but you could also go with champagne or silver/pewter.

I’m a HUGE fan of champagne Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses… Mine are going to be in the “champagne” color area…. I didn’t realize how tricky it was to find the right color… some are really light and others are more gray… my favorite hue thus far has been in the After Six collection… “palomino”
