Just saw on the news that Bumbo seats are being recalled due to skull fractures resulting from falling out of the chair. Just wanted to pass this along to any moms and mommies to be
Here is the link from usatoday.com

I think this is just so ridiculous because who would put their baby in a chair up on a table, counter, etc.? As long as you supervise them on a floor and don’t leave them alone in it, I don’t see the problem. Anxious to hear what current mom’s with babies that use these have to say!

@Jenn23: I completely agree! Unfortunately, I’ve seen countless pictures of babies in their Bumbos on counters. 🙁

I have one on my baby registry and plan on buying it if nobody else does. I will only use it on the floor and of course supervise at all times!
@BoiledPNut: I can’t believe people would sit them up on counters like that. 🙁

This is why we don’t have walkers anymore, just those shitty exer-saucer things. All because some parents couldn’t master the concept of “the stairs”.

I have a 7 month old and got a Bumbo at my baby shower. I love it and my LO actually enjoys sitting in it. I think the baby injuries has a lot to do with where the child is placed. Parents should realize that the bumbo is not heavy at all and if a child where to squirm enough they could potentially fall over and hurt themselves. I think its a good product if used properly.

@BoiledPNut: Me too. 🙁
My friend used to put her daughter’s chair on the toilet seat lid while she got ready in the morning. I’m not a mom but that always made me a bit nervous. I was told that they are sturdy and don’t tip over!
They seem to be an amazing aide for parents but like any toy or item the child of course must be supervised regardless of how safe one thinks it is.

I also think it’s crazy! I’m not pregnant or have any children yet but my best friend uses one all the time for her littles ones. I’m tempted to go buy one now so that I can make sure I have one when the time comes.

i dont have kids yet, so i have a really long list of things i will “never” do with my babies… im sure 90% of them will go out the window when i actually get there, but i can assure you that common sense tells me that i shouldnt prop my infant up on a high counter in an unsecured plastic chair.
poor LOs! hopefully this recall makes other parents think twice before tossing junior on the table in his bumbo!
@Treejewel19: omg! i would have a heart attack if i saw a baby in a bumbo balanced on a toilet seat like that! that def seems risky!

I used a bumbo with my son (now 4) and actually tucked it away in the attic to use for any future kids. It’s a great thing but just like with everything else…you still have to use common sense!

@Jenn23: Agreed. Parents being stupid doesn’t mean it is a bad or unsafe product.

The article states that the problem is kids are falling off raised surfaces. I don’t think is the chairs fault but the parents. Maybe instead they should issue a warning informing parents of this issue and put more warnings on new products. But there is nothing wrong with the Bumbo itself.

@Juliepants: I’m confused – you can still buy walkers. I have a friend with a 12 month old who has one, and I looked on Amazon and they sell them too. Is this something that you’re not supposed to use now, like crib bumpers?

I saw this recall a while ago…and then I was at my godsons’ house and their mom put the 3 month old in the bumbo ON THE SOFA. Alarms were going off in my head left and right. But I didn’t want to over step and say something. The mom sat next to him with her arms around him the whole time. But if she had gotten up, I definitely would have said something…..*sigh*
