So sorry to hear that! ((HUGS)) I’d be beyond bummed as well! Maybe they didn’t really mean it, they’re just stressed out from all the planning and just kind of blurted it out without thinking? Perhaps they didn’t realize how much planning and decision-making would be involved. Is there any way you and FI can pay for the wedding yourselves, even a smaller more modest one? That way you wouldn’t have to deal with parents meddling and still have a wedding. Either way, I hope your parents come around and you still get the wedding of your dreams. Nobody should have to go to city hall unless it’s what they want. Every girl deserves her dream wedding… or at least as close as possible to it. 🙂 Good luck!

@jasonkatie2014:  UGH, that IS obnoxious, yeah, totally hear you! my dad has told me since I was a little girl that weddings are stupid and a waste of money and the only reason people have them is to show off that somebody loves them. PSHHH! I’ve never a greed with him and still don’t and never will. He is actually giving me a generous sum for my wedding, but trashes the idea all the time and loves to remind me how he and my mom just went to city hall and didn’t even have a reception. OK dad, whatever, I’m still having my princess day even if you $h*t on it every chance you get. Your FI is right, keep your focus on it a special day for YOU guys and don’t let anyone else rain on your parade!

Is there a posibility that it’s more than they can afford? I’d probably have some conversation withthem about that.

@jasonkatie2014:  Since they had a much smaller event, and now you are thick into the details and minituae, maybe at this particular point they’re feeling like it’s more about the wedding than the marriage.
