We finally got all the quotes in from our broker for “the ring,” and we have to put to paper our final must haves. Would you rather have speed bumps to keep your ring upright (do bumps do that?), or a euro shank?
I like the overall comfort of a band that is 1/4 size too big but IDK that for a custom piece that I want to chance it sliding off – it hasn’t in the 8 years I’ve been wearing the ring I wear now. I lost one before and it broke my heart – I still don’t know if I didn’t put it back on at my sister’s house one night, or if it slid off my finger when I threw boxes away, or, sad to say, if the guy I was dating at the time took it from its ring dish to pawn (I have no reason to believe he would have done this, I just have no other explanations – I thought I took it off the night in question and put it in its usual place).
My fingers are fairly straight, tapering from hand to tip, there isn’t a wide knuckle to go around to make the size different.

When you say bumps are you talking about sizing beads that go on the inside of your ring?

If you’re going to wear it loose, I say speed bumps so you are less likely to lose it. Euro shanks don’t help with that.

The bumps in the band are called sizing beads, and although they probably will keep your ring upright, they’re more for making your ring feel tighter around the base of your finger (esp if you have larger knuckles). The euroshank will balance the ring so that it doesn’t spin, I’d go with a euroshank over sizing beads. My engagment ring has a euroshank and it does a pretty good job of preventing it from spinning, plus I find it a lot more comfortable than the sizing beads.

I had sizing beads put in because mine was slightly too big. It was easier to do than resize the whole ring and it helps with the spinning because it’s a little top heavy. They were a little awkward at first but now I don’t notice them.

Euroshank bands (which is what I have) tend to help with spinning, not sliding off your finger. If you’re concerned about it sliding off, go with the beads.
