So I’m still on the hunt for my wedding dress, but in the meantime – I posted this a few weeks back in this section and got lots of feedback as to what color I should buy for my fiance’s military ball: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/dress-advice-opinions-please-flattering-or-not-color-selection-advice
I bought the dress from the light in the box website but I feel iffy about it. I feel like it makes me look larger than I am but I do think it’s pretty. I would like to get some objective opionions however. I’ve tried on other dresses and felt a lot slimmer looking (as I’ve lost a little weight via boxing), but maybe I’m being over critical. I also feel self conscious about my arms. The muscle I’ve gained seems to still be hidden by pesky arm fat and my arm just look larger now than they used to :/
I took these pictures when I was at the alterations place. I’m having the front taken up by an inch and they’re taking the beads off of the sleeves.

I think the waist part of the dress just doesn’t hit you in the right place.. It’s a gorgeous dress but doesn’t do your figure justice.

@juicerocksss: Do you think there’s something I can do to the dress to fix that? It’s already at the alteration place so I wonder if a thicker piece in the middle would help or something…

It is not flattering on you, I think you should look for something different.

@rcorral: I think a thicker waist band would help with slimming the waist of the dress.

I would go with something on the wasit, or drop waisted. The way this dress is made is makes you look like you have no torso, but a huge bottom half!
This is the kind of dress that is suited for a stick thin lady.

I agree that the waistline doesn’t quite hit you in the right spot. Also, I feel cap sleeves tend to accentuate arms. I think they only really work with very skinny arms. The dress is a beautiful colour though.

I think the part of the dress right below the belt is the unflattering part. I LOVE THE COLOR THOUGH. What a gorgeous color.
I do not like the sleeves so I’m happy to see you’re removing the beads.

I like it a lot! I’m going to have to say I’m really happy you’re taking the beading off the sleeves cause that was the one thing that was catching my eye in a bad way.
I don’t find it unflattering on you but if anything you could make sure the belt of the dress doesn’t come up in the front (higher than the back) and minimize any poofing under it. Yes maybe a wider belt would do that, with the addional part going lower than the current one. It’s not really poofing though, I’m just looking for something to find unflattering about it because some PPs said that it was. Honestly my first impression of how it looked on your figure when I opened the thread was only positive. The first photo is especially gorgeous.

@rcorral: i dont think its you i think its the dress ; ( im sorry

The bust of the dress is gorgeous and I love the overall style of the dress.. really pretty 🙂
I do agree with the other girls that it’s where the belt is on your waist that is not flattering. You don’t look large though, we can tell it is the dress and not you.
As for what to do to fix it… I don’t think a larger belt would help, and you obviously can’t do anything to move the belt lower..
1) Widen the straps and change the beading on the shoulders. It may help to draw the eye up and even out the proportions of the dress
2) Use a crinoline/petticoat to turn your dress into an A-Line silhouette
Use the Reem Acra Angel Hair as inspiration!:

I love it but are you (or can you) wear an undergarment? I think that would help with what others are saying. I do not think it looks bad enough to return or not wear. I’m sorry but I see wayyyy worse on here and that’s in wedding dresses. This isnt that serious.

Thank you for the advice ladies! I’m going to see if the person doing my alterations can put a thicker band in the middle and I guess I’ll also hit the stores again to see if I can find a back up or something else…

@gelaine22: I have a spanx thing I can wear under but I’m not sure if that will make much of a difference. I haven’t tried it on with it underneath. I’m wondering also if I wear a more simple bra underneath… maybe the dress will fall a little lower… I’m not sure if what I’m wearing under will make an impact or not?
