Of course that was a stupid way to handle a kid. But as a kindergarten teacher, it’s amazing how awful some kids can be and their parents think they’re little angels. I have a student now who punches, hits, bites, knocks over chairs, and even pulls his pants down in class. His mom thinks he’s perfect. I’d be willing to bet that kid is totally bad and the bus driver lost control.

An adult should not be humiliating a child.  Especially in front of others.  As a four year old teacher I KNOW how little kids can be terrors and their parents think they are angels.  But it should not be handled like that.  I moved when I was in second grade and my teacher humiliated me every day for crying.  She would make fun of me, make me stand in front of the class, and make me “Look around!  No one else is crying!”  I am totally going on a tangent at this point- but she didn’t have brains to realize A) I had just moved and knew no one B) My mother married a complete stranger overnight and moved us away from our dream world and he was extremely abusive- beat her, verbally abused us all, killed my animals, abused us in many ways (and later killed himself in the barn).  C) My mother had completely changed overnight and I missed her, and my dad.

Even if you cannot stand a child, you should not humiliate them publicly.  You never know!  It seems old school and thoughtless.

@turnertobe:  I know what you mean!  It almost seems that the more the parents think/ treat the child like an angel, the more of a terror they can be!

Honestly if the kid was acting out that badly on the bus the driver should have contacted the school & parents to figure out a punishment for him. (As in no break/snack time with the other students for a day or what have you.) At least that is what I would have done.

As a kindergarten teacher this makes me so sad. Even if he was being a bat out of he’ll, there are ways to discipline lr make a point that do not replyu on humiliating someone. She should have contacted the school if there was an issue with this boy on the bus to have had it dealt with appropriately. Riding on the bus is a privilege rather than a right.

I teach Pre-K. They are 4 and 5. I’ve dealt with some ROUGH kids (I’ve been hit repeatedly) and this is NOT the way to handle it. That makes YOU look bad to humiliate them in such a manner.

Darling Husband is a bus driver and there are procedures in place for when kids act up. The bus driver tells the disipline coordinator who dishes out appropriate punishments based on a set of standards. The bus driver shouldn’t have done anything like that, the child should have been written up and the punishment determined from there. I do think kids can be holy terrors (oh the stories Darling Husband has…) but there is a reason they have the procedures they do.

This is insane!  Hell would rain down on the head of anyone who did that to my child.
