Bees,
Im just curius to see what everyone likes. I LOVE how fondunt looks, but so many people have said it tastes really gross. One person said it tasted like playdoo.lol Now I do love the taste of buttercream and will probably go with that.Just wish that fondunt tasted as well as it looks!!!!!!!
But what are your thoughts on both??

fondant has buttercream icing underneath so go for whatever look you want. if people don’t want the fondant they can easily peel it off/not eat it.

For me, flavor is way more important than looks. Buttercream, for sure.

I’m not a fan of fondant. I make cakes and I hate working with the stuff. I can get buttercream pretty smooth and even if it is messy I still like the look of it over fondant. Fondant makes me think of plastic. If I’m going to have a cake I want a cake, not a hunk of plastic. Plus fondant is nasty and most people don’t know you are supposed to peel it off and not eat it.

If your baker has skills they can smooth out buttercream to look like fondant. Our baker offered a marshmallow fondant which actually tasted pretty good, but we liked how the buttercream looked and tasted and couldn’t justify the extra cost.

So far the poll is 100% in favor of buttercream. 😀
I don’t actually care for the way fondant looks, even. Maybe because it makes a cake look as though it tastes of fondant.

When we went for cake tasting, we prefer the cream over fondant. The cream was light and not too sweet, while the fondant was super sweet. We and majority of our guest prefer the French style cake (not very sweet) so we went with the butter cream. Also, it’s cheaper to use cream than fondant, so it’s a plus for us.

My baker can smooth so well it looks like fondant, and that thrills me beyond belief.
I do not like fondant. At all.

Buttercream for us. Even tho our baker said their fondunt tastes better than others. We still chose buttercream. Funny…the baker told us theirs was better and advised us to taste others she never offered us a tase or hers. :/ Hmmm LOL
