@maryaz:  Hi! We are in very similar situations – I was an American expat in London for several years, and now I’m living in Moscow! The wedding is in London (marrying a Brit).

The problem you’re going to face is that everything is just such better value in the U.S! And if you want to stick to the budget you mentioned, you will be able to get much better quality for your money in the states! I’ll be taking my U.S. purchased gown on the airplane with me. Not ideal, but I’ll figure out something! I guess shipping it could also be an option.

I can’t really be much help in terms of suggesting places to look in the UK (although I know Debenhams has a line of Bridal wear…). Maybe you should use the UK to try dresses on and get a feel for what you like/what looks best on you, and then purchase in the states?

Anywho…enjoy the process, regardless! ๐Ÿ™‚

Lots of the wedding dress shops in London will have Sample Sales, and you can get dresses easily in that price range, Mine cost £720 new, so wasn’t a sample but still reasonable for a dress ๐Ÿ™‚ You can get a sample for as little as £200

The ones in John Lewis and Phase Eight are ideal for travelling as they are lightweight compared to some wedding dresses, I’d say go to a few dress shops and try dresses on just to get a feel of styles you like, and it will then make it easier for you if you do decide to buy it in America

The Morgan Davies Store in London is meant to be good and The Wedding Wardrobe in Waterloo according to recommendations on another forum

Don’t forget to try Monsoon… they’re a high street retailer that have some beautiful dresses. You can see the collection online.

The Phase 8 gown looks stunning. Don’t dismiss the actual bridal stores though, the new collections are coming through which means the spring collections are dropping in price. Good luck x

I just moved to the US from London and I would definitely vote for getting one in the US. The price difference with the exchange rate means you’re likely to get a much better deal here and not have to worry about shipping it.

That Nicole Miller dress you posted was my second choice. It looks amazing in person and is really flattering. It just ended up looking a little plain once I found the dress that I ended up buying. The fabric is really nice though and it’s comfortable. I LOVE that last one you posted! Have fun!

Whoops I forgot to say there are Benjamin Roberts stockists in London even though it says Swansea at the bottom of that page.

Dont dismiss flying with your dress. The styles your looking at are not that dificult to pack and a quick steam will take care of any rinkles. I flew with my dress 2 months ago since I bought it while visiting my mom and it was a non issue to be honest.

London stockists http://www.sinceritybridal.com/store_locator.php?cb_storecountry=United+Kingdom&cb_storepost=London&collection= good luck. Any good bridal store should help as best they can to cater to your needs. I got a £400 veil and my £1,025 dress for £1000 thanks to fiancé and his gift for the gab! No sob story needed, we just told them it was between the dress I wanted or the more affordable one in another store.
