dessilove:  oh my, i am living this exact same thing right now.  we were originally getting engaged in december and we also started looking at houses in november.  we live in southern california, OC to be exact, so as you can imagine $$ does not go very far in th ehouse department here!  my fiance lived in seattle originally and sold a great house there when he moved here for his job….i knew the reality of houseing in OC but he did not really get it, until we staretd looking lol.  so fast forward to now, i have a beautiful saphire “engagement” ring, my stand in ring lol, until i get my diamond and we are buying a house and moving to the central coast, (where its slighlty cheaper)!!  Paso Robles to be exact:)  He can work from his compnaies offcie up there instead of the longbeach office he works out of now and keep the same position. I have always been very old fashioned but you just never know how things are going to work out when real life come into play!  So I optd for a “starter” ring if you will, so we would have enough for our downpayment..but real ring is the first thing we will get after we close on the house!  And as for wedding…we are going to do a quick one at the end of summer with only our closest friends and family or eloping!  But I will still have a dress and photography…we may just cut out the reception…the real money cruncher.   Weddings are so expensive, it truly is crazy
