I’ve been silently stalking through these boards for a while now and feel like I need some advice.
I am in love with the Maggie Sottero Anniston dress but can’t afford the £1100 price tag so I have found a second hand one for £550 but it is still a bit more than I can afford.
The alternative is to order a replica through Dressilyme for $177 so roughly £120!
So, my questions are
a) are the replica dresses worth the risk in your own experiences, particularly from dressilyme?
b) the original Anniston has a tulle mermaid skirt whereas the replica looks as though it is a layer of satin with a layer of tulle over it.. does anyone know if it easy enough to add layers of tulle to a dress?
I’ve included the link to the dressilyme website so you can see the difference!

@weezy5: You really should have a look at Jasmines Bridal Shop. There are numerous posts on the BEE as well as a now, 4 part main post. Lots of dress to look at. Jasmines are more expensive than other replica companies, but the outcome is a lot closer to the real dress. I am sure they will make a full tulle skirt if that is what the original is.

I got a knock-off but not from dressily, and I love it. It cost a tenth of the price and would recommend! 🙂

@weezy5: I think you may regret it if you end up getting a knock off. You pay for qualitywith expensive dresses, with a knock off the fabric might not be as good, the stitching might not be as skilful, the decorations may fall off with time or not be as intricate: there is a lot of stuff that won’t be the same or could potentially look wrong.
If you want to start trying to turn one dress into another then you’re going to need a seamstress and that’s going to cost you. It’s probably going to end up working out at about the same price for the used one and at the end of the day the knock off version of the dress is never going to be the dress you want, no matter how hard you try to make it that way.
Just suck it up and buy the goddamn dress already!

I was going to originally get a replica through Jasmine’s and went into the bridal shop to try on a few different styles. The consultant put me in a dress that I never would have even taken a second looked at, and I fell in love. It’s a Paloma Blanca and I knew the quality (the silk/satin mixture fabric is incredible. I wish I could wear it everyday!) just couldn’t be replicated. The price tag was 3k, but I wound up only paying $1152 for the sample because it fit like a dream…I couldn’t say no.
I would consider looking on some pre-owned wedding dress websites and asking about purchasing a sample. If it’s still out of your price range, then go for the replica! Jasmine’s Bridal Shop or Dressily Me are great choices and both companies do an awesome job. Jasmine’s is significantly more expensive, but they do a great job. To be fair, DressilyMe has some pretty fantastic work, too.
If you do wind up going the replica-route, make sure you have a seamstress professionally do your measurements. My friend added 1/2″ to all of the measurements to ensure that nothing was too small.
