Has anyone decided to BUY a projector, rather than RENT one?
Here’s why I’m asking.
Our venue provides a 9 ft by 12 ft screen for our photo slideshow, but we have to provide a projector… They told us we can rent through them for $180. I’ve asked some DJs around the area what they rent their projectors at, but most say ab $150. If I’m going to be spending this much money, I’d rather BUY one, ya know? We are really considering this because we could use it in the future as well.. and we know others who could use one too. My fiance has been looking around and may have found one (with great reviews) around $300-350! He’s finding other deals for less as well, although he hasn’t told me what he found on those reviews yet…
So yeah.. Anyone doing this? Or have you done this?

Here’s another alternative, a company that rents projectors. Much cheaper too, around $75.

@Lydeeyah08: If you really want a projector and will use it after the wedding, then buying one is probably worth it. I’m skeptical of the $300-$350 ones though, but it depends on how high of quality you are looking for. The quality on the screen will only be as good as your projector. We don’t own a TV and use our projector to watch movies, it’s HD, and ran close to $700. The screens can also be quite expensive. We got ours for free during a promotion with Amazon, but it normally was $399.

@ArianeChiTown: I will definitely take a look at that website if we decide to rent over buy. I am leaving that decision to my fiance.. 🙂
@sapphirebride: Thanks for your concern. As I read your post, I realized I left something truly crucial out that would have been nice for you to know… I had forgot to mention that that particular projector was $350
on sale… it’s actually worth close to $1200. Now normally I’d be skeptical of an AMAZING deal like this, but knowing my fiance I’m not. My fiance is so particular about how he spends his money. He won’t buy anything w/o checking for deals, discounts/coupons, etc. FIRST. Also, I’m not sure how, but he knows how to find amazing deals on pretty much anything. It’s scary how much he knows about buying via online! Lastly, my fiance is always reading reviews of items he’s interested in purchasing. To be honest, I’m not sure why we need a projector, but my fiance seems to think it would be beneficial to own one day. He also mentioned renting it out to friends who get married in the future.. We know SOO many people getting engaged/married right now, so I could see us earning so much of that $$ back. We won’t need a screen since that’s provided by our venue.
THANKS to the both of you for these posts.. I appreciate the feedback!!! 🙂

We own a projector and I really like it. Ours is of the lower end and cost about $350 from Amazon.com. In my case, Fiance did the research as well but I know when I compared it to the one at my office, the resolution was not as high. However, for indoor use, you don’t need such a high resolution and it is great to watch movies, play Wii and Fiance loves sports on the projector, I’ve never had a problem with the clearity. We don’t have a screen, just project directly on a white wall. A screen would make it a bit more clear BUT a screen in my living room owuld be pretty ugly IMO so the wall is our screen. I think it is a nice thing to have and if you would have to pay half the price to rent it, you may as well buy it and make use of it later. If you decide it was a bad idea, IÄm sure you could sell it on eBay.

@slicey19: Thanks for your input! At this point in time, my fiance & i plan on buying the projector.. 🙂 i honestly believe doing so is our best bet. we know SO many people in need of one, and renting is usually pretty spendy anyway!
