Do it!  We made one that looks exactly like the one in your picture, and my husband even made the bedframe to attach to it (that part was not easy).  The headboard was super easy and probably took us 30 minutes tops.  The hardest part was keeping the nailhead trim straight.

Are the tacks necessary? We will be attempting this soon ourselves. I heard the tacks were a pain to work with. I would rather have not do them if I don’t have to.

Oh I love that. I’ve been wanting to make our own headboard and really wanted to do a tufted one, but that takes a lot of work. I like the nailhead trim!

I wish I was crafty. That headboard looks really nice, but since I am not a DIY person I would have to buy it.

@namarie- The headboard and bedframe, now that’s impressive!

Thanks!  Really, though, the headboard was not hard to do.  If you don’t have the power tools to cut the plywood,  just get them to do it for you at Home Depot.  Then you just put batting on top and staple the fabric over it.  My husband is incredibly talented (he built us a desk and an end table last week!), but I did most of the headboard myself.  The nailhead trim is just decorative and not necessary.

@roxy821:  I’m the same – I wouldn’t trust myself to try to DIY this!

@namarie:  Thank you! That answered my question. I plan on using a patterned material so I wasn’t sure. That is perfect!

@Double_rainbow:  I am not even thinking of tufting to be honest. I saw something on pinterest that really caught me eye.

Here is the link. The first design is the one I really liked.

There are tutorials all over the place for this project. If you are reasonable handy and patient, you can do it.

Ive made one and I was a preteen and it was easy. The tacks can get pricey quick (I use to sell all the supplies) and the thicker foam might give you sticker shock as well. I say go for it but check out the supplies at your local store first.
