Our GMs rented tuxes for $125.  I suggested that I could find a suit for everyone to buy in the $150ish range, but the insisted on going with the rental to make things easier for me.

onthefritz:  my husband bought his. It’s a Ralph Lauren 3-piece suite we bought online at Macy’s for $250. If they are wearing a dark colored suit it might be better to just purchase it- they will get worn again unlike a bridesmaid dress, now those should be rented!

We bought suits at Jos.A.Bank.  The suits were around $150-$180.  The guys paid $100 (less than what they would have spent to rent a tux), and we paid the remainder as their gift.  They were all really pleased to get a great suit rather than throwing away money on a rental.

onthefritz:  My fiance is buying a tux (he will need one anyway for work related things) and our groomsmen are renting. One groomsman already owns a tux, so he’ll wear that. If you think you could find suits that are comparable in price to renting, I’d offer it as an option, but with tuxedos, that just isn’t possible (if you want any semblance of quality).

onthefritz:  We do not have a wedding party, so no groomsmen. We are going to buy FI’s suit. He will graduate about a year after our wedding and need a suit for interviews anyway.

Groom used his own suit from H&M, groomsmen rented because it was cheaper and they don’t really need a suit.

Fiance is having his made at $1800. Three piece suit made to measure. Includes shirt and tie, but not shoes.

Cheapest rental in our area is about $250. I’m buying my son’s suit for about $200.

Fiance is not a tall man and is lean, so if he bought a suit he would have to have it altered and then it still may not look as good. He will get lots of wear out of it though, we have a wedding next year to attend and need a suit for our cruise honeymoon, plus we go out all the time.

He’s really excited about having a suit made just for him 🙂

My Fiance wants to buy suits, he thinks it will be nice for his groomsmen to all have a nice suit. I however and trying to get him to rent tuxes. My 14 year old son who is 5’11” and still growing doesn’t need a $200 suit. His brother who never wears suits and is planning his own wedding doesn’t want a $200 suit. This price also doesn’t include shoes, socks, shirt or tie.

If they rent tuxes it included everything and will be altered for their measurements. I worry that if all the guys buy their tuxes and need alterations but think “it fits fine” it’ll be a disaster. I imagine the guys all wearing suits that are too small or too big….I see Tom Hanks from the movie Big with his adult suit on when he is a kid. I should mention other than my son none of the Groomsmen or ushers live near us. So it would be 100% up to them to get the right suit and be sure it fits properly. (Sorry, my venting is over…this is a worry for me)
