Fiance and I are starting to look at tuxes for him and his groomsmen now. We’re fine with having the groomsmen rent tuxes, but Fiance kind of wants to buy one because all of the rentals he’s had look ‘boxy’ (this according to him…I think he looks lovely in whatever he wears).
Does anyone know of any good places to rent tuxes, where they would look a bit more tailored, and less boxy (we live in Maryland)?
Or any places to buy tuxes that aren’t crazy expensive? He’s found one or two that he really likes at Nordstrom, but they’re really, really expensive…and he doesn’t want to put that much money into something he doesn’t have much occasion to wear very often.
And I’ve suggested to Fiance that maybe we go with black suits for him and his groomsmen…since then they could definitely wear them again…but he insists that he wants to wear a tux so that it looks more formal.
I feel bad that as the bride, I get to buy a dress and get all dolled up for the big day, but he’s stuck renting a tux that he doesn’t like :-(…so I’m hoping someone on here may have some suggestions for us!

I went through the same thing with Darling Husband – I expected him to rent, but he wanted to buy. It felt totally wrong for me to buy this crazy $ dress and tell him – no, you can’t do the same.
So – we found one. We hunted everywhere. We thought we found the one at JOS Bank (it’s a chain of men’s clothing stores) but ended up going with one we found at an outlet store – it was something like a $3K tuxedo for $800 or 900.
The things that ended up racking the price up were: cuff links/tuxedo buttons set, bow tie set, tuxedo shirt, shoes. DH ended up spending around $600-700 JUST on accessories…. but, again – I felt like I couldn’t say no – since he could re-wear the tux, while I wasn’t exactly going to be wearing my wedding dress again. Oh, and there were extra $ to alter the pants – ugh! $$$
ETA: a friend of mine ordered a tux online – you send in all the measurements and it was SUPER cheap. He was super happy with the quality…. we had already bought DH’s by then, but after seeing the tux, wished I went that route!

@oracle: Thank you so much for the tips! We’re going outlet shopping this weekend, so we’ll make sure to check out some potential places 🙂

I think you can buy a tux at Penney’s for around $200. I can’t speak for the quality, though. They probably have them in the men’s department at your local store if you want to go check them out.
In a perfect world, we would’ve had enough money to buy Darling Husband an Armani tux, but since it isn’t, we decided on renting a Calvin Klein from Men’s Wearhouse.
Edited to add: Wow! Great sale prices at JoS A Bank right now!
