Yes, owning a home before having a child is a priority!

No, it's better to have a child before owning a home.

No, but having a home wouldn't hurt!

I think there are so many variables when it comes to making the right descion for you.

Personally I came looking for other opinions on this subject, I am recently married & have been with my now husband for nearly 8 years & we are very happy together & with what we have, we’ve got a lovely 2 bedroom apartment with safe courtyard & garden, carport and an amazing park at one end of our road with shops & the beach at the other end!

I was diagnosed with stage II Endometriosis + polly cystic ovaries at only 24, now that we are 26-27 we are seriously thinking of starting a family. We could hold off, but my fertility is only going to decline & IVF is so very expensive, it would almost ruin chances of getting into our first home.

Given our situation we are better off renting while staring our little family & plan to have a more permanent home in our mid-late 30’s for example which could end up being a little nicer in reality. We might even do a little bit of travling with baby as it’s not impossible & we’d have the cash to do so. I should mention, properties are extreemly expensive here!!!

We currently own a home, and if I could do it all over again AND we could find a place to rent that was safe/clean/nice/cheap I would rent in a heart beat. dealing with frozen pipes, electrical shortages, fixing windows, leveling doors etc etc etc the list could go on forever. I would MUCH rather rent a place and beable to call the landlord when our doors wont close than having to call a carpenter and take out my checkbook.

We’re renting and we’re due in August.  We would like to own a home but houses are expensive and we ultimatey don’t know 100% where we want to settle and stay for a long time yet.  So, until we have that sorted out there’s no point in buying just to buy.  We’re renting his parents house (they have two) so we have plenty of space and great landlords, lol.  This works for us for now =) I don’t think you NEED to own a house but it’d be nice.

As I said in the other thread, renting would cost us over twice as much as owning in our area, plus we would be left with nothing to show for it in the end, so it was DEFINITELY a priority to own a house for us. Renting would have been unsustainable and would have impoverished us. We would have been much less secure.

@skibobrown:  I’m currently 33 weeks and the same reasons. id always imagined my own home prior to baby, but dont know what city we might be in next year let alone 5 years. Honestly, a mortgage payment could be less than our rent, but the location factor stops us.
