Check out OldNavy.com!  There are usually sales going on for 20-30% off, and online they have a really good plus size selection!

If you’e in Georgia still you should take advantage of CATO — I loved the ones I found in that state! (I don’t do leggins because my hips and thighs laugh at the thought of being that exposed. ever.) I’m more of a pear typically 20 ish top 22/24 bottom

I’m a plus size apple shape, and this is what I’d suggest:

A pair of “nice” jeans with some stretch. Old Navy is a good place to look for those! They won’t last forever, but they won’t break the bank. By “nice” I mean – dark wash and boot cut rather than skinny jeans. Some plus size girls pull off skinny jeans beautifully, but apple shapes like you and me look best in boot cuts, I think.

A pair of dark gray or black slacks are easy to dress up when necessary and go with everything.

Some v-neck or scoop-neck solid color t-shirts. Make sure they’re fitted (not tight, but not baggy) and aren’t too long. (Ones that hit mid-hip look best on me.) I have good luck finding Jones New York t-shirts at TJ Maxx, and I really like them – they fit well and hold up well, too.

A simple dress in a jersey fabric. I look best in wrap dresses and dresses with a fitted waist. Avoid empire waists, as they make apple shapes look pregnant, and make sure the fabric is on the thicker side. And a pair of tights to wear with your dress, too.

Some inexpensive earrings and necklaces to jazz things up! It’s amazing how much more pulled together you look with a nice necklace or pair of earrings, and you can find cool things on the cheap at Target or Forever 21.

Oh, and sweaters! I usually buy them in a thinner material so they’re easy to layer, and a v-neck or scoopneck is the most flattering on me. Crewnecks can emphasize my belly, so I try to make sure my sweaters expose a little more clavicle. 😉

I’m not plus size,  but I love this thread :). Building a wardrobe is hard, period!

@MellowPossum:  also,  what always helps me is to actually go shopping with someone?  If they know what I’m looking for its an extra set of eyes. :).

@MellowPossum:  HEre the thrift shopws are always good for black pants of any size. I am plus-sized and can always find them.

Jeans–antoher matter. Although tie jeans selection can be good it takes a long time of pawing through racks of jeans to find something that fits.

I would look for 1 new pair of jeans that fit you and buy a few pairs of black stretchy pants from thrifting for other bottoms.

@MellowPossum:  plus sized lady here!  The Avenue has my favorite plus jeans.  They’re thin, stretch denim and are really nice in the boot cut.  They also have these amazing pants called no gap waistband.  They’re nice trousers that somehow fit me perfectly.  For basic tops, I get my cardigans and sweaters from The Avenue too… They have a nice cut which is fuller than the Old Navy plus line.  Macys, Kohls, and Nordstrom are my other favorite stores.

@MellowPossum:  You said you’re in GA. If you’re in Atlanta (or nearby), my favorite thrift store is Last Chance Thrift. Everything is 1/2 price on Mondays, so if you don’t have to work, the best is to go first thing (8:30am) on Monday morning – the prices and selection can’t be beat!

Edited to add – I’ve found Lane Bryant, CATO, and Old Navy pants there that work well with my plus-sized, apple-shaped body! 🙂
