I need advice! I fell in love with a gown that I found on a website. It’s perfect in every way, not to mention the dress is only $152!! I am looking to not spend too much so this would be perfect. But the other day, I found the actual gown on the actual designer’s website… and the dress is around $6,000! The websites had the exat same pictures with the exact same models.. How can I know if the $152 gown’s website is actually a safe place to buy from? Will the dress actually be like the designer’s dress, or is it a rip off?

Hmm. I don’t blame you for being concerned. Have you looked around online for reviews of the website?

It will likely not be the designer’s dress. It MAY be someone reselling their used gown, but chances are good that it’s a ripoff designer from China making 10 cents an hour to make it. There’s probably no chance you’d get your money back if it didn’t come just like you want it. Buyer beware.
Check out trunk shows, used gowns websites, secondhand stores, etc…

you get what you pay for. the fabric will be cheaper and the quality won’t be as clean. maybe you could try a more reputable but still inexpensive site lit like dressilyme?

It really depends on the site. That sounds to me like probably one of the companies based in China that make knock-offs, and as Gemstone mentioned, reviews are everything for those– some communicate well and do nice work, some will send you a dress that isn’t very well done and not care if you complain, some don’t send you anything, it runs the whole gamut from what I’ve seen. Odds are very good, though, that it is not that actual dress from that actual designer.
If you search for “replicas” on WB, you’ll find a lot of threads discussing the plusses and minuses of that type of company (assuming it is what I think it is, anyway). Hope that helps!

I agree, depends on the site. I was in the same boat when looking for my dress. Most of those sites are China made replicas. I would not take a chance honestly! Look on Craigslist, preownedweddingdresses.com, oncewed, etc…

It really depends. It is best to check out BBB ratings and search for consumer complaints BEFORE ordering.
