@milesbella: my bf bought my ring from a ‘mall jeweler’  you can actually get Great deals.  My suggestion would be Samuel’s, only because they own their own mines so you pay no interest, and they help build your credit.  You can pay half down, and no matter what credit you have, they will let you do payments for the other half.  They also have a wider selection than just gold bands, and can make anything you want, or customize anything they have.

Of course you can negotiate! My ring was origionally $500 and I got it down to $325 w/ insurance. His we didn’t have to negitiate because we got it for $65 at Zales. Its titanium. Usually titanium is a whole heck of alot cheaper and people think they can’t cut it off your finger but it isn’t true. I have talked to a few trama surgeons and they called the BS. Also, if you need a size change and you bought the insurance they will usually just order you a new ring. Its pretty nifty.

We got his ring at Kay’s. It was priced at $900.00 but we had a coupon and they had a sale going plus we worked out a deal so it cost $380.00. It’s two-tone, white gold and yellow gold. Similar to this…

@Mrs Hedgehog: I know! The sweetest thing is that my bf’s dad got hsi mom’s ring from there.  So there’s actually family history from this place.

We actuall bought FI’s online at TitaniumKay.com. It was far cheaper than a jewelry store, whether independent or chain. They also had really good customer service. And nice products! We’re very happy with it.

You should keep in mind that not all gold rings are the same – it depends on the amount of the gold in the ring.  A 24k gold ring is definitely going to cost more than a 12k gold ring because it contains a higher percentage of gold.  Also, you really can’t compare the price of gold to titanium – they’re purely different metals with vastly different commodity prices.  I think some of the smaller mall chains should be ok but you can always compare prices to make sure you’re getting the best deal.
