I’m currently considering buying a loose sapphire off ebay. I LOVE sapphires and thoroughly enjoyed customising my engagement and wedding band. I’d love to design future jewelry, completely from scratch. Would you ever buy a loose stone even if you don’t have any plans for it yet but you adore the colour? It’s got great specs too. Can sellers on ebay be trusted? The stone is being sold from Thailand, it’s origin is Madagascar. Would you take a gamble (I’d hate to find out the gem is fake/or not worth anything, it’s a moderate amount of money that I wouldn’t want to lose)? I just think the colour is great as it’s a colour change!
Thanks for reading, any advice is appreciated!

Interesting that you ask this, as I’m also contemplating purchasing loose stones with no immediate plans. Unfortunately I also do not know anything about the legitimacy, etc. around buying from Thailand via eBay.
Does the seller have good feedback on eBay? That’s usually what I base my decisions on.

While I would buy a loose stone I would never buy one online without seeing how it looks in person. Regardless of the specs of it, predicting what it will look like in person is very hard. Every stone has it’s own essense if you will. Two stones with the same specs can look completely different.

Feedback wise: the seller has mainly positive reviews, a few years ago there were a handful of negative reviews so I’m still not sure…
I understand that a stone can look pretty different in person, I don’t think there are any jewellers nearby that sell loose stones where I am (I don’t drive, so quite limited)
