My husband and I have been actively TTC for a few months now, I’ve always known I wanted to tell my husband I was pregnant in a special way and have recently thought it would be cute to make a few t-shirts at home to suprise him. We have two dogs that we adore and I thought it would be a cute idea to incorporate them in the suprise.
The idea is to buy a few white t-shirts and design them to say big brother and big sister and have our dogs walk downstairs until he noticed them, then I would make one for myself that says mommy to be, i’m sure by the time he see’s my shirt he’ll finally put two and two together but I thought it would be great to make one for him that says “soon to be the best daddy in the world” and wrap it up for him to open this way we will all have our special shirts on and can take a little family picture with us and our two dogs.
Knowing my husband and how much he loves our pups I know how much he would love a suprise like that… the problem is making four shirts is going to take some time and after I hopefully get my bfp I don’t know how long I can keep a secret so I was wondering would it be bad juju to pre-make the shirts and keep it hidden for a few months until it’s time to pull them out?
I know it’s silly but a part of me feels like if I make these shirts before finding out im pregnant I might be jinxing myself. Would you pre-make everything or keep the secret for a few days until your all done putting together the suprise?

@Chanel87: Those kinds of things can be made in an hour at a t-shirt shop. Most swapmeets have one. If I were you, I’d scope one out, put aside the money and do it that way.

I would say that the way you want to surprise him, you are fine with waiting until you get your BFP. I surprised Darling Husband with a special onsie that would take weeks to come in, so I had pre-ordered it I had to wait over a year to use that bad-boy, but it was so worth it!! I hope your TTC journey is short and you get that BFP soon!

@MexiPino: that was what I was originally thinking but those shirts are pretty expensive in my area and I wouldn’t feel right about buying those shirts when we wouldn’t be wearing them too often. I use to design shirts as a kid with those fabric paint glues.. it was always pretty fun and pretty inexpensive especially if you buy a few t-shirts from walmart and grabbed some fabric paint from the art supply aisle but making them might take me a day or two. My problem would be how can I lock myself in a room for a good amount of hours without tipping off my husband and how can I possibly keep a secret for that long
This is why I was thinking if I did them over time and locked them away until I needed them I wouldn’t have to worry about keeping a secret for so long or be afraid of tipping him off but I don’t know if I would be jinxing myself by making these shirts before I even got pregnant. It would be great to take the test and have everything already in a hidden closet ready to go

@Chanel87: you won’t jinx yourself. I say do it because I couldn’t even wait an hour for target to open to tell him!

I wouldn’t do them ahead of time. hopefully not, but if you have trouble getting your bfp, it would be a painful reminder, not to mention it would be hurtful for him if he stumbled upon them somehow.

@Mrs. Doily: Thank you! I hope so too.. I have endo so i’m hoping it won’t cause any problems with fertility

The logical part of me says that making these in advance can not and will not affect your ability to get pregnant – but then I also had my own superstitions when I was TTC 🙂 and it’s hard to have a reminder around if it takes a long time. But then the month I gave in and bought hubby a book in advance was the month we finally got our bfp, after 15 months!! So maybe it will bring you good luck 😉

I wouldn’t do this. The idea does not sit well.

Ok, I know that this sounds loony, but this is what I would do.
Buy the shirts, buy the paint and trace out the design. That way a lot of the work is done (especially if you just stick to one colour). Then, the day you find out, have a mate take him out for the day whilst you do the actual painting and let them dry.
This way they are only half done beforehand and there is no bad juju.
Yes, this is crazy but my usually logical brain has decided that this is best.

@Everdeen: that actually doesn’t sound half bad

I’d say do them ahead of time and make sure there’s no way hubby can find them! That way you can tell him straight away!!

I wouldn’t worry about jinxing anything. I’d be worried about him accidentally coming across them somehow (maybe he decided to spring clean the back of the closet where you happen to keep them), and then thinking you were pregnant already. That would be a big let down.

I’m not even ttc yet (we start in November), but I’ve already bought Darling Husband the gift I’ll give him when we get our BFP. No bad juju there. I just want to be prepared…And it seems easier to keep the gift a secret for a few months than it would be to keep a pregnancy a secret for a few hours!

@Chanel87: I woke Darling Husband up at 4am to show him my pee stick. Definitely have them done in advance!
