Is it a chinese maker? These are very hit and miss. Search for dresses from china topics on here and there is a lot of info. I have ready good things about dressilyme.com but again – quality is not very high. On etsy there is a lady whose shop is called LaceMarry and people like her work. I have bought dressea for formal occasions from everpretty.com and they are ok for the price. All these come from China…

I bought my custom dress from LaceMarry a few years ago (my wedding was a year ago this weekend, and I bought the dress almost a year before that) and I was really happy with what I got. I think I paid $300. She made the dress based off a photo I sent of a dress I tried and I would say she got it about 90% right given that I made some tweaks.

This was/is my dress, from the back as there’s more details on the back. I am 5′ tall, as well, and I provided a length measurement that was perfect.

I ordered my dress online and it turned out great. I was very hesistant at first, but my fiance was like well order it now and if it doesn’t look good we can budget for a different one. I ordered mine from d-daydress.com. I sent my measurements except for the length and that’s the only thing that needed to be done (hemmed).

I would play it safe and use a known site if your buying from china… if you used the ‘wedding section’ of Lightinthebox or JJshouse then they are pretty trustworthy (and have reviews, often with real photos of the dress) but do not buy from the ‘fashion’ sections they aren’t controlled like the wedding section (wedding section is the wedding dress, bridesmaid dress, guest/MOB dresses, flowers girl dresses etc…)

if its ebay 2nd hand or a shop clearance sale etc… then you should be ok and ebay can refund you if the item is not as specified (however return shipping to china can make that pointless if its an aisan company)

as for etsy, its a hit and miss game all you can do is take chances… read reviews and try and make smart choices

laurenthurbon :  I had a bad time with a China custom dress but that’s just mine experience. Plenty of people get something great though.  The main thing I noticed was the higher end designer gowns had amazing structure and internal corsetry which the replicas just don’t have even if they do have some boning. Something to consider if you want strapless.  I ended up with a great bargain secondhand designer gown via preloved but it was on ebay too. Would you consider secondhand?

LaceMary and MermaidBridal (both Etsy sellers) have very high reviews and many girls post their wedding pics on the comments section.

They are both China sellers, but check them out. I found at least 10 wedding dresses I adored, although I prefer a little better MermaidBridal’s designs, but that is a matter of personal preference.

I think they both offer custom too.

Here’s one I really really love
