I don’t think there is any rule to doing things. If you and him feel comfortable with you getting your own ring them absolutely, get it. But ihe either of you feel strongly about who get the ring just get a band until he can afford to get you the ring you want

I would just get the temporary band (since it’s all for questions from others anyway) and then get the real one at the actual ceremony that you have later on.

If you don’t want to wear both an e-ring and a wedding band, you should get the one you truly want!

You can buy thin titanium ones on eBay for under $5.

I say go for it and buy yourself a ring if that makes you happy. You can always upgrade/swap it out later if you want.
