So, for a while Fiance and I were planning on an indoor reception and wanted a purple/gold peacock theme. I had tons of ideas picked out for that, but we’ve recently decided to switch gears entirely and plan a backyard reception at his parents’ place. They have a HUGE backyard and live on a dead-end street where all the neighbors are friendly, so it’s a great choice for a party. We’re probably going to scout out one of the local parks/some other pretty venue for the ceremony so we don’t have to worry about the logistics of setting up a ceremony space alongside the reception.
I just put together an inspiration board based on what I’m envisioning and would love to get some input on my ideas!
The rose flower lights in the top are from etsy, I found them last night and LOVE the idea of placing them around the double deck behind the house (they’re string lights, in case you can’t tell). I’m also in love with how the dance floor is set up in the bottom-right photo. We’re probably going to rent a tent to put the tables in just in case the weather go awry, but I hope to keep the dance floor outdoors (with an emergency back-up plan to move it under a tent/erect one over it).
I hope to do a LOT of DIY for the wedding. I want to make the photo wall and acquire a vintage suitcase and old postcards for guests to write notes on. The good thing about planning so early is I can start looking for these things now and have them well before the time comes 🙂
Anyone have further ideas for me?

So pretty! I think the darker colors are so pretty & will make your wedding unique. I find a lot of backyard weddings are either pastelles or really bright colors, so this is different without being over the top. Cute!

Yay i love your theme mine is vintage bold peacock pics below of how my reception will be set up ,
I love your pics and your ideas are great, vinatge suitcase love it, also can get wooden signs and vintage mirrors, old pics of your mum and grandmas etc in there wedding photo’s on the gift table, battery and solar fairy lights from ebay are a good idea when outdoors, cute vintage sign posts saying, food this way etc I have also seen alot of cake tables with all sorts of cakes not just one wedding cake, so you aunts make a different home made sweet , i love that idea for a diy outdoor wedding , hope these help 🙂
DIY things i have been doing are the napkin holders in below picture, all the invitations were printed but then i added extra hand made details, hand cut little birdcage boxes with chocolate eggs and hand painted peacocks ill currently cutting to shape will sit on top, I have 200 peacock feathers that im attaching on to florist ribbon and will be tied around the base of large candelabras for each table , the reception center offered alot and now im adding my own DIY touches to make it fit my theme, also I have a finger print tree guest box, which i designed and just need to find a frame yet for yet

@les105: I was nervous about these colors translating well to outdoors, but so much of what I’ve found in my research/picture digging has proved me wrong!
@Rouquine: Yay backyard weddings 🙂 I did a little thread stalking and read what you’re planning on, sounds very similar – I can’t wait to hear how your plans go!!
@suzieq80: OMG thank you for all of those ideas!!! I definitely love the idea of old pictures of relatives in wedding dresses – I was thinking of doing that for the tables, kinda the way they have it in the top pic on my board. The best part about doing it at home is that FI’s mom is an amaaaazing cake baker and I’m hoping will offer to make something (she did a birthday cake for me this past year and it was the most delicious thing I’d ever tasted. EVER!).
Eiik, looking at those pictures and reading your ideas makes me a little sad I’m giving up the peacock theme. Can I have two weddings? lol! Best of luck with your planning, I love the napkin idea.

I think the backyard wedding will be beautiful. Do you have trees from which to string cafe lights?
or upside down umbrellas
or a parachute would be a great cover for the dance floor

I’ve always loved the pics of lanterns hanging from trees for an outside reception

@julies1949: I don’t believe there are trees spaced evenly enough for the cafe lights (pity, because I love how those look) but we’ll have to keep that in mind and see if it will work. I *love* the parachute idea! Thank you for sharing.
@AirForceWife78: Me too! I think half my wedding date pinterest board is lantern-lit receptions, ceremonies, etc.
